"All that we see or seem is
but a dream within a dream."

-Edgar Allan Poe.

Somewhere,

maybe at the edge of existence, somewhere devoid of all but him, a singular entity lazing in his chair is where we begin our tale. The place's love for life (air, water and so forth) was in a sense, borrowed or projected.

A man clad in gilded armour slept in the quiet dark of unfinished cosmos, snuggling against the cushioning of his own golden cape and was finally, after several long years of dutiful wake, falling asleep.

While he slept in several places at once, (again, his presence, distributed in a sort of borrowed fashion.) the universe was once again in a vulnerable state. The threat to it was again the only being hence far narrated upon, him, Kent Nelson...or as you might know him, Dr Fate.

You may think that Kent Nelson isn't a very godly name

You may think that Kent Nelson isn't a very godly name. This is because he is very much human if not for the golden helm currently covering his face, partially resting against his right shoulder. Within the helm is not just the human head of Kent Nelson, but...everything, all of creation.

When a man sleeps he oft dreams, and the mind of a man being what it is can sometimes produce dreams that can even overwhelm one's waking imagination.

What if your nightmares became real?

What if you birth demons by accident while in deep sleep?

There were weighted whispers and thundering steps prowling the corridor outside a guest bedroom on the third floor of the guest house. The room was very well kept: A bed that displayed no tension whatsoever; neatly made with not a wrinkle. The carpet covering almost the entire marble floor of the large room was like a thin layer of snow too shy to melt, its fluff like never tread. It was perfect, white and clean. The table with an edge flushed to the wall by the balcony was dusted just the other morning. Even the pens in their holder on said table were parallel, but the chair that belonged to said table was elsewhere.
