The sky was bright and sunny as birds happily chirped and sang to the brook and light breeze in the trees. Singing ballads of harmony and the beautiful day around them. The clouds happily moving at a slow pace above them. The sun gently kissing everything below and in it's warm reach. The birds and insects continued to fly or hop around the park that had blankets of green grass. Making a wonderful place for children and families to play, the occasional love stricken couples wandering around. The birds continued their wonderful happy songs, oblivious to the pain in one man's heart.

A young man sat on one of the benches in the park as he rested his elbows on his legs and stared at a red rose in his hands. He ignored his breaking heart as he fingered one of the petals, looking at the ribbon he tied to it with a ring. He didn't know how long he'd been sitting there, but it had been a while. Not that it mattered.

He glanced at his phone and realized what time it was. He sighed and finally took the ring off the stem then put it back in his box. The humiliation of having to return it dawned on him. He closed his eyes for a moment as he thought about what to do or say before he got up and walked towards his car. He glanced to a passing couple and gave the rose to the young man, smiling a little to hide his pain.

"Hey thanks man." The teen grinned and gave it to his girlfriend. She gushed and giggled as they walked off. The older man watched them go as his smile faded.

The ring in his pocket growing heavier by the minute. He glanced around to the others in the park and he felt a lump in his throat as he saw the families play. He continued walking and hoped he got to his car soon but was stopped as someone tugged on his pant leg. He glanced down to see a small boy grinning up at him. Tears stains on his face and a runny nose.

"O-officer? C-can you help me?" he asked hopefully as he hugged a little bear close to him. The man stared and crouched down, still in his uniform, having just gotten off work. He took a handkerchief from his pocket and gently wiped the boys face.

"Are you lost?" he asked gently and the boy whimpered as he nodded. Gripping his shirt with his tiny hands as he shook. "Do you remember where your parents were when you last saw them?" he asked and he looked around for a moment as he whimpered. He wasn't that old. Maybe three? He let the boy blow his nose and glanced around again. "What does your mother look like?" he asked quietly.

"Like an angel." he smiled up at him and the police officer smiled sadly as he thought before looking for someone who was searching for a kid. "I was playing... and... um... she was gone with the baby." he said. "She looks like an angel too." he promised.

"Well let's go look for them then." he said and stood up as the boy hesitated and gripped his pant leg again. The officer looked at him again.

"B-but I'm scared...." he whispered. The man thought and crouched down again as he looked to the child. He needed to get him home.

"Then I'll give you something to help you be brave. It's a magical hat that all police officers wear to make them brave and tough." he smiled gently and put his cap on the boys head. The child gasped and stood taller as he puffed out his tiny chest.

He smiled and stood again then started walking, slowly so the child could keep up. The small boy ran after him and gripped his hand tightly. The cop hesitated and looked at him before his heart broke again, he suddenly wished for a child of his own. He walked with him and was near the parking lot when he saw a woman getting a baby in the car, who was crying.

"Mommy!" The boy screamed and ran over than hugged her as he grinned up at her. She blinked in surprise and looked at his hat then at the man.

"Oh.... Rodi there you are." she smiled and crouched down then hugged him tightly she smiled and looked to the officer as he walked over. "Here's your hat." she said and stood then took it off the boys head. "Thank you again. I was looking for him." she smiled and the man nodded slowly as he watched them get in the car. The boy got in the back and told her what happened, throwing in dragons and knights as he spoke. The officer smiled a little as he watched them drive away. He looked at the cap in his hands and his smile faded again, his depression sinking in once more.

He stared at the box in his hands as he rubbed the top with his thumb, the jeweler watching him and frowning. The man had simply asked why he was returning it to figure out why he didn't want it, or if he wanted to exchange it. The piece was expensive and crafted from scratch per his request. This was irritating.

"Sir, why are you returning this?" he snapped and the cop just stood there as he fought back tears.

Why did she say no? What could he have done differently? Was it his job? Him? The man behind the counter frowned deeply.

"This is the third ring you've bought from us and returned, I'm beginning to think you don't actually have someone in your life. Either that or you're a sorry loser." he scoffed. The cop hung his head more and a pregnant woman frowned as she walked over.

"Shut up Ronald. You don't treat customers this way." she scolded and sent him to help a young couple. "Just making a return?" she asked gently and the officer nodded as he took his recipe out shakily. He looked at the insane amount he had spent on the ring and looked to the box. Was this the third time? Unfortunately it was.

"Yes." he muttered as he swallowed the lump of emotions in his throat. "I... yes...." he whispered and looked at her as he slid the box to her. "I... no longer need or... require it." He said with what pride he had left. The woman nodded slowly and quietly ran his card to give him his money back. He thanked her and didn't even wait for her to say it would take a few days. He already knew that.

"And don't come back! You obviously don't know how to keep things!" The man yelled and the woman frowned as she smacked his arm. The cop didn't respond other than to bristle before he went to his friend's house.

Optimus quietly sat on the couch for a moment with his friend before looking up as Elita poured the man some tea. She looked at him sadly and walked back to the kitchen.

"What's wrong with me?" The cop whispered quietly. "Three times... three times I've proposed and been rejected..." he whispered and hung his head.

"Nothing is wrong with you old friend." Optimus whispered quietly and looked at him. "You just have not found the right person." He said gently.

"Optimus... I appreciate your positive outlook... but... I've dated several woman and become serious with a handful... but I can never... move... forward..." he said and hung his head as he gripped the cup. The emotions getting caught in his throat again.

"Is... it because of the job?" He asked quietly and looked at him. The other man shrugged a little.

"Yes.... and other things... I-" he stopped as his phone rang and he looked at it for a moment. He furrowed his brow and answered then paled a little.

"I'll be there." He said and hung up before he set the cup on the coffee table. "I have to go. Thank you." He said and quickly rushed out of the house.

He ran into the building and looked  around quickly before talking to the nurse at the desk. She told him where to go and he ran to the said room. He slowed down as he got close and glanced into the room for a moment. The woman laying in the hospital bed looked up and smiled weakly.

"Oh look... my son finally decided to visit me." She smiled and he sighed as he walked in.

"They said you fell again." He said as he gently gripped her hand and sat by the bed. He furrowed his brow as he looked at the bump on her head. He gently set his hand on her forehead and moved her graying hair back to look.

"Oh don't fuss." She said and looked at him. "Tell me how it went." She smiled brightly and his expression fell. "Oh... I'm sorry sweetie..." she whispered.

"It's fine... maybe I'm not meant to ever be happy... or-" she smacked him upside the head and glared.

"Ultra Magnus, don't talk like that." She said seriously and he sighed as he watched her.

"It's alright... I just need some time...." he whispered quietly and gently kissed her hand. "Don't worry about me." He smiled sadly.
