Time is Not On Our Side

thirteen years of unease trauma

          The incident with the beer bottle was only the beginning of the trauma... Over the next thirteen years, it was similar incidents to the first one, up until she was nine years old. After that, it only became worse for Sadie.

           When she was about four years old Sadie was playing in the front yard with Sammy Jo, Grayson came home very drunk and overly upset due to the fact that he had gambled away all his money. Grayson then, sent Sammy Jo home because he didn't want him around. Since Sammy Jo noticed that Grayson was drunk he offered to take Sadie back to his place til tomorrow. Grayson got more upset about that offer because Sadie didn't want to stay she wanted to leave. Sammy Jo put Sadie in her room for her safety so she can be kept away from Grayson for a little bit. After that Grayson demanded that Sammy Jo would leave at that very moment. Sammy Jo said he'd leave but hid in the next-door neighbor's house to make sure nothing bad would happen to Sadie. Grayson yanked Sadie inside the house and began to take his anger out on her he grabbed the first thing he saw a beer bottle, then threw it at her. The next thing he grabbed was a cable cord, and he started hitting her repeatedly. That is when Sammy Jo broke down the door and stopped Grayson from abusing her.

          Sammy Jo attempted to grab Sadie from Grayson though he struggled immensely after about 10 minutes he was able to grab her. He took her to the hospital immediately. Once they arrived at the emergency room they had to wait a while due to paperwork. After waiting almost 30 minutes a doctor brought them in. The doctor's name was Jane. Dr. Jane had asked what had happened. Sammy Jo told the truth and explained that her father had been abusing her because he wasn't sober. Dr. Jane had to take x-rays to make sure there was nothing broken. After the scan, it showed that she had a bruised rib and spinal cord that would take about two to four weeks of healing. They also did a scan to see if there was internal bleeding which there was not. Sammy Jo was very thankful there wasn't. Dr. Jane bandaged her up very well and gave Sadie medicine to get from the pharmacy. After they left and picked up the medicine to help heal Sadie they headed back to Sammy Jo's house for the night.

          Over the years the trauma seemed to get worse for Sadie. At the age of 8, she didn't have Sammy Jo anymore to protect her since Grayson had fired him for always getting in the way. She had to learn to protect herself from him. She still has a lot of marks from when she was young even though she doesn't remember what happened only that Grayson was abusing her. Grayson had gotten more abusive towards Sadie as she grew older it was what seemed like the worse time that he has ever abused her was when she was about nine years old. She was playing in her room and Grayson came home very drunk worse than he ever was, he was also really upset since he lost a lot of money on gambling. The first thing he did was grab Sadie and released all his anger on her like always. This time it only seemed worse the next day she had swollen wrists cuts and bruises everywhere on her body. Those bruises would go away but the memories of that beating won't even though she knows she did nothing wrong she still can't hate her father no matter how much he hates her. He is the only person she has and she still loves him to death.
