I sat at the lunch table by myself. My class had been let out early, which gave me enough time to grab a seat and start on my sandwich. Today it was ham and cheese. My mum likes to make different combinations, unusual things that normally wouldn't go together. But surprisingly, shoved between two slices of bread, they do.

Magic.

Aria came and sat down in her usual seat, taking out a banana and peeling it. Her eyes scanned the crowded room, like they had done every day this week. I had wondered who she had been looking for, but never directly asked in case I shouldn't know.

Spencer came to sit with us next, dropping her huge textbook on to the table before taking a seat. She flipped to a page, and began scanning the small print at a fast pace. Aria shook her head, and we both tried to stop our laughter.

Finally, Hanna came to sit beside me, and I reached to take her hand. But she just moved at the last second, and then pretended she was reaching into her bag. I felt a little hurt, but shrugged it off. Aria and Spencer hardly noticed. In fact, Spencer wouldn't notice if the world ended right now, and Aria's eyes were too busy moving from face to face. Which left me and Hanna, who was purposely focused on her phone so she wouldn't have to talk or socialize. It felt bad, and I wondered if I had done anything wrong.

After the lunch bell rang, Aria and Spencer walked off to class, talking happily. Hanna was about to leave when I took her hand. She looked at me, and then dropped her gaze. But I saw something in her eyes that she didn't want me to. She looked sad.

"My house, after school." I whispered in her ear. She nodded, and then walked off. I didn't want to push her by hanging around her when she was like this. Whatever was wrong, I'd know by tonight. And hopefully, I'd sort it out.

The rest of the day went by really slowly, and I found myself thinking of things that could be wrong with Hanna. Maybe Caleb or Sean were trying to get back together with her? Or maybe her dad is stressing her out? Either way, whatever is bothering her, I'll help her sort it out.

I left my class quickly, one of the first people out of the door. I went to the car park, finding my car immediately. Partly due to the sticker on the back that read 'powered by rainbows'. It was a gift from Hanna shortly after I came out. I laughed at the memory, before I noticed Hanna was stood at the passenger side.

"Ready to go?" I asked, unlocking the car. She nodded, and climbed in. I went round to the driver's side and got in. I started up the engine, and then began driving home.
