I lay awake in the early morning before my 5 AM alarm. I can't help but feel anxious about the day to come. After talking to Jiro yesterday and letting out all my inner worries about Bakugo potentially being my soulmate - I am hesitant to go to school.
Why am I scared?
I sit up, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.
Might as well get up since I am already awake.
I slide out of bed and creep downstairs. To my surprise I find Uncle Mata already awake, sipping on his morning coffee and contemplating something on his tablet. He looks up as I reach the ground floor landing.
"Good morning, love. You are up early." He observes.
"Yeah. Just uh- excited?.... For school...?" I say unconvincingly.
"Said no one ever." He scoffs, returning to his tablet.
Thankfully he did not press me for details. Uncle Mata is a considerate man, and never interrogates me when he can tell something is bothering me. He trusts that I will share when I am ready.
I head to the kitchen and grab a drink. Sipping on it I return to the couch and sit down next to my uncle. I lean into his arm and look at his tablet to see an opened browser tab on the news from a villain incident that his agency took care of last week.
"Hmm oh yeah. Good job with that by the way." I say referring to the article. I had seen the news on TV when it happened and had tried to call to congratulate him afterwards, but he was too caught up in paperwork.
"Yeah I am happy that everything went smoothly. It was a low class villain so not a ton of media attention. I am glad to see you are keeping up with me though." Uncle Mata smiles, patting my head.
"Of course! I am your number one fan!" I beam up at him.
We continue to catch up with each other for some time. It has been a while since Uncle Mata was able to relax and spend some time at home. He wasn't expecting to be back at work for a couple of days, so I was really enjoying our time together. I start to tell him all about my first day at school and what my class schedule will be like.
"As you know they make us take regular classes as academic requirements since we are still only high-schoolers."
It's a bummer I want to do hero stuff all the time. Good thing I don't really have to try for good marks.
"Probably the worst is that we have English with Present Mic...in the morning." I groan, thinking about the very loud professor.
"Jeeze a morning class with Mic? That sounds horrible." Uncle Mata cuts in, brushing his iconic hairstyle away from his eyes, only to have it settle perfectly back into place.
"Haha yeah, it's hard to imagine him as a normal teacher. It is definitely not his style, kinda boring. I might bring some ear plugs if he gets too excited though." I continue. "Lunch is around noon...OH! The class I am most excited about is Hero Basic Training with All Might!" I say my eyes sparkling with excitement.
"I can imagine. Being taught by All Might himself is a wonderful opportunity." Uncle Mata hums his approval. "Oh! Look at the time. Keep that beautiful sparkle in your eyes while you get ready for school! Go go GO!" Uncle Mata shouts as he hustles me along.
"Crap! You're right!" I say running back up the stairs to get dressed. When I am finished getting ready I fly back down the stairs, popping my earbuds in and rushing out the door.
