The old woman left about ten minutes ago, leaving Diana to her own devices.
She had finished her bracelet rather quickly, as Abuela had put it.
She picked colors Sophia wore often: blue and grey. The beads were marbled and swirled with black.
Sophia would love it.
Abuela did not return for a while, leaving Diana with the choice between running and staying.
It felt... cruel to leave. The woman had given her tamales and a bracelet. Some other old ladies had given her strange strawberry looking candy. They didn't taste very good but it was the thought that counted.
Instead of running she laid down on the couch, closing her eyes. Her brain still pounded against her skull, the light seeming brighter than normal. Sleep might make things better.
She laid like that for a little while longer before she heard a group of people walk in from the hallway.
"You're tellin' me this is a damn nursing home?" A familiar gruff voice growled. "This whole time?"
"Your child asked the same thing when she came." The shaky voice of Abuela filled her ears.
"Diana?" Glenn cut in. "Where is she?"
Diana sighed, wishing everyone would be a little quieter. She pulled her cap over her eyes and turned to face the back of the couch.
"On the couch." Abuela answered, shuffling along with the group.
She heard then group come closer.
"Diana are you okay?" Glenn shook her shoulder.
Diana grumbled "my head hurts cause they hit me in the city. Now let me die." She curled in further, brain attempting to squeeze out her eyes.
"She's fine." Rick chuckled. "Come on, let's go home." He grabbed her around her middle and pulled her up.
"Nooooo..."she reached out for the couch.
"Stop bein' dramatic." Rick set her on her feet and pulled her cap away from her face.
She winced at the income of light.
"Rick she might have a concussion." Glenn intervened.
"We'll look at her in the car. See if there's anythin' wrong." Rick patted the top of her hat. "But we gotta head out."
She resituated it on her head, hating when it was facing any direction but forward.
Diana barely payed attention to Ricks conversation with Guillermo and the other members. She hardly heard them giving out half their guns to the men protecting the old men and women. She didn't register them explaining their plan for the future and shaking hands in goodbye.
Abuela shuffled to Diana, her bracelet clutched in her hand. "You'll want this back."
Diana nodded her thanks and pocketed the bracelet. "Thanks for the tamales." She mumbled, rubbing her eyes.
"It was nice meeting you, Diana." The old woman placed a hand on the side of her head. "You're gonna make it in this world."
The words struck her dumb as the lady smiled at her gently.
"Come on, ya vegetable, let's go." Daryl grabbed the back of Diana's shirt and pulled her after him.
"Hey!" She yelped. She turned and waved to Abuela before she turned the corner.
