"Excuse me, do you know how to get to Mr. Peterson's room?" Kylie asked the third person.
"Sure go down to the end of the hall, turn left, up the stairs and it's the second door to the left." said the stranger.
"Thank you!" Kylie said as she began nearly running down the hall. She had never been late to a class and she didn't want to change that today. She practically burst into the classroom and sat down in the seat closest to the back. Mr. Peterson made his way to the front of the class and began giving the same lecture that every high schooler gets in every class the first day of school. Because she knew exactly what the lecture would be she let her mind wander a little bit.
She was in a room full of unfarmiliar faces, she recognized one girl from a camp her parents made her go to earlier that summer. But she was surrounded by friends who she was whispering excitedly to about one of the boys in the class. What were her parents thinking making her move to the middle of no where? So now, she not only had to start high school, but she had to start high school in a new place surrounded by new people. She began to tear up a little as she thought about her friends back home. They must have been having a great time starting their high school careers with people they'd gone to school with for years. Why did they get that but she didn't? It just didn't seem fair.
A single tear rolled down her cheek and she brushed it away quikcly, but not quickly enough because somehow the boy sitting next to her had noticed. He was obviously concered for her, but he didn't say anything to her for the remainder of the class. She watched him out of the corner of her eye. He definitely didn't look old enough to be in high school. His face was rounder then most anyone else's in the class. His light brown hair fell to his eyebrows. It was hard to tell how tall he was while he was sitting but Kylie guessed he was her height or shorter. But despite how young he looked, he had a very kind face that Kylie couldn't help but look at. She knew then that she wanted to talk to this boy, but she couldn't seem to get any words out. And so she left class that day without even learning the boy's name.
The next day of school not much had changed, she still hadn't met anyone, but her parents assured her she'd be fine and she'd know someone before the end of the week. Luckily her first class hadn't been to bad, and she didn't have to talk to anyone. But she was determined to at least find out what the boy's name was. But when she walked into Mr. Peterson's class she realized the seat next to him had already been taken. He had his head down but when he noticed Kylie was in the room he looked up at her and smiled. He pulled his foot off the chair in front of him and motioned for her tp sit down.
"Hi I'm Liam," he whispered to her as she sat down.
Kylie just looked at him for a moment before barely whispering, "I'm Kylie."
But despite how quite she was he had heard her, and he was determined to get to know her.
