Kaleb POV
As my alarm blared, I groggily opened my eyes. I hit the off button and glanced at the display. '6:00 AM' glowed in red as I pulled myself out of bed. SilverAsh had wanted to see me early today, he said he was finalising a contact or something. I started putting on my off duty clothes, consisting of black jeans and a white button-up shirt with a black Karlan Commercial logo on the breast pocket. I stood in front of the mirror and looked myself up and down. 'My fur looks a little messy. I should sort that out.' I thought to myself. First impressions were important, so I should look atleast somewhat decent. I started grooming my tail and ears. As a Lupo, I had a little more to deal with relating to hygiene. A wolf's tail and ears were surprisingly annoying to clean. As I groomed my light-brown fur, I noticed that my eyes were blood-shot. I grabbed my eye drops and quickly dripped a couple into my eyes. My eyes looked more natural, and the shine in the black iris had returned. Once I looked presentable, I grabbed the duffle bag that contained my gear, and started walking towards SilverAsh's office. The corridors were nearly empty at this time in the morning, which was nice. It left time for me to wonder about what SilverAsh was bringing me into now. I stopped in front of his office door and knocked.
"Enter." Came the Feline's voice from inside. I lazily pushed open the door and saw SilverAsh pouring over a crazy amount of files.
"Hey boss, you wanted me to get up this early. What's the deal?" SilverAsh glanced up from the files for a second before signing something and handing me an unrelated folder. I opened it up, and at the top it said 'Rhodes Island Pharmaceutical' I looked up at SilverAsh who had stopped and was now looking at me with his hands clasped together.
"This is about Cliffheart, isn't it?" I asked. I didn't even need to read the rest to understand what was going on.
"Yes. I want you to join up with Rhode Island as an operator for a while to keep an eye on my sister." I sighed at my bosses unorthodox request.
"They're a trustworthy company, they'll look after her. You don't need me to join..." I was cut off when SilverAsh raised his hand to quiet me and he started himself.
"They will be supplying us with different medicines that will be useful in expanding the company in exchange for your services." I stared at SilverAsh in disbelief.
"I really have no say in this matter, do I?" I asked with a deadpan tone.
"No." Came the abrupt and expected reply. I adjusted the duffle bag on my back.
"Fine, but I'm taking one of the humvees." SilverAsh shook his head.
"Actually, someone who's working for Rhodes Island is here to pick you up." My ears twitched at this. Thinking ahead as always. SilverAsh was kind of a pain to work for, as he kept most things to himself, but he still managed to run one of the most profitable companies on Terra. I trusted him with my life, but he still annoyed the hell out of me at times. Just then, a knock resounded at the door. I turned to towards the noise then back to SilverAsh who said "Enter." As the door opened, my ears twitched again. In walked a Lupo woman with dark grey fur and hair. Her ears similarly twitched and her eyes widened slightly upon seeing me. I nodded at her and turned back to SilverAsh.
"Spark, this is Operator Texas. She will be flying you to Rhodes Island."
I turned to the woman who now stood to my right and shook her hand briefly. As I did I quickly looked her over. She was relatively short, about 5'3", compared to me being 5'9". She had orange eyes that seemed to glow in the dim light of the office, and her dark grey hair reached her lower back before stopping. She had small patches of red in the fur in her ears and her tail seemed well-looked after.
"Guess we'll be working together. Operator Spark." I introduced myself. I was surprised that she was a Lupo, you don't see too many of them, and I've never seen any with her fur colour. "Yeah. Operator Texas." She replied. We stopped shaking hands and I turned back to SilverAsh. "I hope you're paying me well for this one, boss." I said before I turned to leave. As Texas and I headed up to the roof, we didn't say anything. I did notice that she kept glancing at my tail and ears though. Once we got to the roof, I looked over the helicopter. It looked like a UH-60 Black Hawk painted in a khaki colour with a black Rhodes Island emblem on the fuselage. Texas quickly moved into the pilot's seat and started up the helicopter. I slid open the aft door and threw my duffle bag in before climbing in myself. I slid it shut and strapped myself in. Shortly after, we took off. I looked out of the window as we left the snowy peaks of Kjerag behind. I sighed. 'And just when I got used to office work. What a pain.' I rested my head against the seat and closed my eyes. I shouted forward to Texas "Wake me up when we touch down." She didn't say anything in reply, so I just relaxed and let myself get a quick nap.
