The Elven Prince.

The tall elven man made his way down the hall. His black shoes clacked loudly against the clean marble floor. He had curly black hair and dark skin. His most startling feature were his icy blue beautiful sharp eyes, and a masculine build. He had long pointed ears. He was Elven Royalty.

There were many kingdoms scattered across the land-
All ruled by a different race.

The main four were;

The dwarven folk, whom are typically blacksmiths.
As you would guess, they are short people, but rather strong and intelligent. They are very strict on whom they let into their kingdom. They are cold and strict, and everything about them besides that is rather unknown to anyone outside the dwarven kingdom. They merely keep to themselves, and occasionally help their allies in battle.

Then there is the fae.
Faires, in other terms.
They are rather short, skinny creatures. They typically have pointy ears and noses, and have brightly colored wings. It's mostly stereotypes that all fae are annoying and irrational and idiotic. And, whilst some can be so, not all of them are as such. They are great allies with the the next race.

Humans.
Just like you.
Just like me.
They are known to be great warriors, men and women. They are the most wealthy and powerful of all the races. They have the most land, the most money, the most power. They have what every other kingdom wants but cannot achieve. If you are born human, you are pretty much set for life. They fought along side the fae in many wars.

And the final main race-
Elves.
They are sharp minded folk. They are loyal to each other, and mainly excel at fighting with magic. They are the most poverty stricken of all the kingdoms. The elves come in all shapes and sizes. Black, white, short, tall, skinny, muscular.
What keeps their kingdom going is their will to work together.

The elven man continued down the hall, and finally stopped. A maid rushed to his side, a worried look on her face. "Nicholas! My prince, I bare bad news. Your mother's condition has worsened-"
"I am aware, Orchid. I am on my way to visit her at this very moment."
"Ah. I see.."
"You may return to your position."

His name was Nicholas Reiner. It was his birthday. He had just turned 20.

But he would not be spending his birthday celebrating.

He opened a door, and walked in. There was a bed in the corner of the room. He let out a long sigh, and walked to the bedside, and kneeled down.

His mother laid there, very clearly on the brink of death.
Her name was Velverosa Reiner. She is Queen of the Elven kingdom, and had been ruling alone ever since she was left a widow due to her husband's sudden murder.

Unfortunately, Velverosa had fallen ill. A sickness among the elves that could only affect the elves- The illness was named Matamis na Kamatayan, which translated to "Sweet Death".

The illness was rare, but if one were to catch it, you could consider yourself dead for sure. It isn't contagious.

"Mother.. are you feeling okay?" Nicholas gently brushed his mother's hair out of her eyes. She was ghostly white and skinny, but she managed the strength to look over at her son. "Nicholas.." She smiled. "I heard the most curious thing from those maids today. Do you know what she said?.." Velverosa muttered. Nicholas smiled sadly. "No, mother, I do not. Enlighten me on the matter, if you will."

"The humans are planning on arranging a marriage between your sister and their prince. That's their way of declaring peace between the humans and the Elven.." Velverosa sighed.

"..Pardon? But- But- But humans have always been our enemy, mother. What if this marriage thing is a sham? Besides.. Sister is so young, why are we marrying her off so fast?" Nicholas bit his lip. "Alas, we have not agreed to the marriage yet, dear. The humans are still planning, its not guaranteed yet..."

Silence.

"Son, once I pass away, you will be king. Along with so many responsibilities being passed onto you, you will be the one to decide if your sister marries the Human prince. Prepare for all the responsibilities to be thrown onto you at once, because you will be king for a very long time- I assure you." Velverosa smiled calmly.

Nicholas bowed his head. "I understand, mother." He looked back up, noticing that his mother had taken his large hand. She squeezed his hand.

"Nicholas, you are meant for great things. You will be a marvelous king, and, when the time comes, a marvelous husband. You will leave a large impact on this kingdom, I can tell. I'm so proud of you." Velverosa smiled, looking more excited and alive than she had been in days. "You have grown into a handsome, strong man. You are intelligent and calm." She said. Nicholas smiled back at her. "Thank you."

As the energy faded from her face. "I believe I am tired, yes.. Nicholas, do you mind if I take a nap?"

"Its fine by me, mother."

"Thank you, son."

As Nicholas turned his head away, he felt his mother squeeze his hand one last time. "Nicholas," Velverosa said weakly, "keep your wits about you."

And she closed her eyes.

And she never opened them again.
