Deaf.
It was the last thing Kami's parents had expected to hear. They found out two weeks after his fourth birthday. They always kind of knew, but it broke their hearts to actually hear this. However, his mother was determined to help him. His father was, sadly, not as determined and left a month later.

Kami's mother worked endlessly to teach Kami and work several jobs to support the two of them. As Kami grew up they had an unspoken agreement they would give each other space, but would also be completely open to one another. When Kami turned thirteen he got his service and support dog, Koda. Koda was Kami were joined at the hip from day one. Kami saw this as the perfect chance to really tell his mother what he wanted.

A few days after his birthday, he explained how he wanted to go to a real highschool. While his mother was quite shocked, she also respected his wish. Kami saw everything coming together.
