Looking at his wrist to check the time, Tay realized he had 10 more minutes left before his shift ends. He stomped his foot impatiently in a repetitive manner, nervous of what might have happened to his grandmother. As the clock ticked eleven, he was quick as a wink to storm out of the building.

Feeling out of breath, Tay panted as he stepped foot in the police station.

He glanced around the room and first thing he immediately saw, were his grandmother's apologetic eyes.

On their way home, his Yāy(ยาย) tiptoed behind him quietly scared of how Tay might react. Tay was oddly silent and none of them dared to talk.

"Didn't I tell you not to gamble anymore?" Tay broke the silence with disappointment evident in his voice.

"I'm sorry, apo. I thought I was doing you a favor."

Tay clenched his jaw and reminded her "Please just promise me that this would be the very last time, Okay?"

"I promise." she guaranteed. An ember of regret was present in her eyes but it didn't inhibit Tay from noticing the tension of her voice.

Tay knew she was hiding something. "Just spill it, Grandma." He sighed and thought how could this even get any worse?
