Chapter Eleven: Comfort

POV: Third Person

It was a somewhat quiet night as the two mobians slept in the large bed. Both kept to their respective sides, though Gadget didn't mind that much Infinite kept as far away from the wolf as possible.

Or so he thought...

It hit midnight, and a very restless jackal tossed and turned in bed. He was in the middle of a terrifying nightmare, it was so horrifying that when the nightmare came to its climax he latched on to the closest living being he could find - Gadget.

Gadget yelped in shock and immediately woke from being yanked into a tight waist hug. Gadget relaxed but was still concerned about Infinite as he turned his head to see the jackal shaking and sobbing into his short, red furred back.

The wolf yawned softly and turned in bed so he embraced the scared jackal in a warm hug. Infinite pressed himself further into Gadgets chest while his breathing softened and his sobbing ceased slowly. Gadget emitted a soft purr as he rested his head on top of Infinites.

Surprisingly, he heard a deeper purr coming from Infinite.

Gadget internally grinned, he was glad that - even for a moment - Infinite was content in his embrace. There was no pushing, shoving, or fighting, just warm comfort.

Both of them fell asleep afterwards, Gadget continued his dream while Infinite recovered from the nightmare.

POV: Zero

Mm...what?

Why is my face on something...furry?

I rose my head, shaking away the grogginess and looked at what I was resting on. My eyes widened and my pupils shrank as I realised I was sleeping with Gadget.

What the fuck?

When?

Why?

How?

I shuddered and wiggled out of his embrace. I sat up in bed and stretched, cracking a few bones in the process. I heard shuffling and turned to see Gadget also waking up, he rubbed his eyes and yawned.

"Morning" Gadget scratched his ear.

I looked away, "Morning..."

"I assume you're wondering what happened last night?" Gadget spoke up with a faint chuckle.

"Yes, from what I recall I was sleeping on the edge of the bed then when I woke up we were snuggling" I cocked an eyebrow at him and narrowed my eyes.

Gadget gulped, "Yeaahhh..." he cleared his throat, "You woke me up in the middle of the night because you latched onto my waist, I assumed you were having a nightmare because you were sobbing and shaking" he explained, "So, I done the most logical thing and pulled you into an embrace and you calmed down"

I...had a nightmare?

Huh...

I wonder why I don't remember it...

I glanced to the floor in deep thought. Gadget got out of bed, "Breakfast?" he asked.

"Sure." I grunted and got out of bed too, I pulled on my shoes, gloves and scarf and followed him out. Gadget walked into the kitchen to prepare breakfast, since his apartment doesn't have a dining room we were going to eat in the living room at the table present - not that I minded.

Gadget came into the room a few minutes later with two plates of bacon and eggs, he passed me a plate and sat down with me to eat.

After breakfast, Gadget got a call on his little ear piece.

"Hello?" Gadget responded using the mic, "Yes, I'll be there soon"

I raised a brow,

He's leaving, eh?

Gadget sighed, "I have to go to Metropolis to continue getting rid of excess debris, I should only be a few hours" he explained while standing up to get ready.

I hummed, "I see..." I watched him as he ran around the apartment getting his gear ready.

He approached the door, but looked at me directly in the eyes, "Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone." he narrowed his eyes before leaving the apartment and locking the door behind him.
