Garley, Aldrich and Jorge climbed aboard a carriage, accompanied by Ethan and Petrus. The remainder of the group took another carriage.
The carriage was rounded, made of aluminum and closed in dark glass. It was drawn by two black steeds. The interior was lit by neon lights, and the temperature was regulated by air conditioning. It looked like a carriage from the future.
"How are these combat tournaments done?" asked Garley, excited. "They don't kill their opponents, right?"
"No," Jorge answered, laughing. "The swords are enchanted so that they aren't deadly. It's just a contest of ability and powers."
"Don't be so sure of that," said Petrus. "There have been plenty of deaths in these tournaments before. That is why they don't allow minors to see them, nor participate without being accompanied by an adult."
"Do you have my ticket, Petrus?" asked Ethan. Petrus nodded.
After a few turns, the carriage ended up on a wide and busy avenue. Although the stores were full, the majority of people were walking towards something that looked like an ancient coliseum. However, it was much more modern and less frightening.
Minutes later, they got off the carriage right in front of the amphitheater.
A long staircase of sculpted stone led them to the entrance hall that was filled with guards. They walked towards a ticket booth.
Garley became disappointed when he saw the long line, which was getting longer and longer by the minute.
"Oh no!" Jorge complained. "By the time it's our turn, there'll probably be no more tickets. Even if they have enough, we'll be in line for two hours."
"Wait a minute. Let me think..." said Petrus frowning and grabbing Jorge's shoulder who pushed him.
Garley couldn't imagine what he was going to do, but Petrus's face broke into the smile of someone who was about to do something sneaky.
"I can buy them for you," he said.
"But what are you going to..." Aldrich began to ask. "It's alright, Aldrich. I'll take care of this."
"Okay, but don't do anything to ruin our trip!"
* * *
Petrus walked towards two slim boys who were way up in line. Ethan was laughing. Aldrich sighed. Garley observed Petrus talking to the boys as if he knew them, and soon after, the boys gave them their spot in the line and left.
"At least we won't miss the tournament," said Jorge.
