Part One: Learning
The first thing they felt waking up was an immense headache. Like after the times Thomas went out drinking then got hungover. Hangover headaches is what they felt.
A groan escaped Virgil's lips as he raised an arm to press against his head, but he didn't feel his hand, or fingers. It felt warm, and he could move it, but his arm didn't feel like an arm, nor did his hands feel like hands. Fighting back another groan Virgil prided his eyes open, expecting to see his bed covered in black and purple sheets and blankets, but instead saw brown dirt littered with red and brown leaves. Squinting as he felt another stab of pain in his skull, Virgil slowly lifted his head up and looked around.
He nearly screeched with surprise as he looked down at himself, not finding a human body, but instead a horse's. A black body with a black mane and tail, the tips a deep purple. His ears twitched when he heard a groan off to his left, looking over to see, not a human or a horse, but a unicorn laying on their left side. He could tell it was a unicorn because of the single pearly white horn sticking out of it's forehead between its eyes. This one was a golden buckskin with a dark brown mane and tail tipped in sea green.
Virgil shook his head, blinking his eyes as he tried to wake up from this weird ass dream. When he didn't wake up he huffed, which sounded more like a snort.
"What hit me?" a familiar voice grumbled lowly.
"Wasn't me," groaned another.
"The fuck did Thomas do last night?" the buckskin asked.
"Language kiddo,"
Virgil heaved himself up onto his side to see not only the buckskin unicorn, but four others. There was a large white one with a dark grey mane and tail that fade into navy blue at the tips, a bright red roan with a chestnut mane and tail fading into red at the tips, a dark brown bay with a black mane and tail fading into a deep green, and finally a small white one with a white mane and tail fading from orange to yellow to blue.
"W-who are you?" Virgil asked.
"You should know us Virge. The hell are you talking about?" a Roman like voice grumbled.
"Open your eyes princy," Virgil said, not losing his usual snark.
Virgil watched all the other unicorns blink open their eyes, some wincing while others groaned lowly.
"The fuck kinda messed up world is this?" the dark bay one asked, eyes blinking quickly.
"Kiddo I said language," the small white one said.
"Sound off; who's who?" asked the large white and dark grey one.
"Virgil," Virgil answered, ear flicking.
"Roman over here," said the red roan.
"Remus beside him," the bay said.
"Janus," grumbled the buckskin who had yet to open his eyes.
"Patton here kiddo," said the white one.
"That leave me. Logan," finished the large white one.
"Okay, now that we know who we all are, what happened? What was the last thing you all remember?" asked Janus who finally blinked open his eyes.
"Falling asleep," everyone said in unison.
"Well that doesn't help much," sighed Janus.
"What ever. Let's get up off the ground and take a look around," said Roman, beginning to rise to his hooves before falling down, looking surprised.
"Jeez it like walking on stilts," he said.
"It can't be that hard," laughed Remus, trying to stand up, but falling as well.
"You ever wonder why foals take an hour to stand up? This is why. Take it slow," said Logan, pulling his legs underneath his body then standing with his back legs first then his front legs. Then Logan was standing, though his legs were in a wide stance and very wobbly. It looked as if he would fall at any second.
"You look like you could be knocked over by a gentle gust of wind," Janus observed.
"At least I'm standing," replied Logan.
"Fair enough," Virgil said, pushing himself to his feet and standing up, his legs wobbling and teetering as he attempted to remain standing. He had to stumble around a few times as to not fall on his face and kept his head lower since it threw him off balance a little.
"See, not that hard," said Logan.
Janus rolled his eyes, but attempted to stand as did everyone else. Roman and Remus fell over many times, running into each other as well. Janus got it pretty easy, just like Virgil and Logan while Patton fell a few times. After around twenty minutes they has all managed to stand up, though some were still wobbly.
"Alright, we can stand. What now?" asked Roman.
"I'm not certain," admitted Logan.
A sudden giggle rippled across the wind, all six of them going into high alert, Virgil the most.
"Nightingale they look like new borns on their legs," a young voice said from the forest nearby.
"Hush Fynn. Don't be rude to them," another, older voice said.
All heads turned to the forest, Virgil making out two shapes in the undergrowth, the taller one having eerie glowing emerald green eyes. The two stepped closer, entering the clearing and showing themselves. One of them was a unicorn similar to Virgil, them being dark grey with a jet black mane and tail tipped in purple, a silver horn glistening on their forehead, but also had a long scar across the front of their chest. The other one looked to be a foal with its oddly proportioned legs, short mane and tail, and a short horn rounded off at the end. This one was a soft white with grey legs, their mane and tail also white with the tips powder blue.
"Hello strangers. You seem lost. Care for some help?" the larger one said, blinking their emerald green eyes.
