Chapter 10
I hurried home with all these thoughts about this mysterious stranger in my head. When I arrived and opened the door, I find Casper sitting with my mom in the living room and both of their eyes held my gaze.
"Valerie sweetheart we need to talk." She says with a concerned look on her face. I look at Casper and he just looks away. Weirdo..
"Uh sure, what is it?" I ask resting my bags down and taking a seat.
"Casper here has been telling me about what has happened at school but don't be mad with him because I kinda pried it out of him. This guy Jace.. you shouldn't bother with him, he's bad news.
"How can you say that!? I raise my voice. You don't even know him and Casper, I don't know what the deal is between you two but whatever it is please leave me out of it. I've only been here for two days and it's been heaven and hell all at the same time but right now I am just not in the mood!" I get up and head up the stairs and none of them decide to follow, luckily for me. I want to cry and I feel like it but I just can't bring myself to do so. I'm loving Sweden so far, oh yes but at the same time I hate it soo much! I lay on my bed and stare at the ceiling for what seems like 5 whole minutes when I catch a glimpse out of the corner of my eye. An ancient looking book flew across my bedroom floor followed by the loud shattering of my glass window. I get up instantly and look out the window and catch a glimpse of someone with chestnut looking hair. It was Jace.. He was sitting on the ledge of my window in no time.
"What the hell was that!? I half scream half cry. Why did you have to do that?" He hops out the window as mum and Casper open the door and I kick the book under my bed before turning to face them.
"What happened? They say in unison.
"Some kids were playing baseball across from here and some kid hit the ball straight through the window. I watched it come." I laugh at how good I was at making up that lie in such a short time.
"Where's the ball then? Casper decides to push it and challenge me."
"I threw it back. Duhh.." I say rolling my eyes. He says no more and they both stand there and watch me as I sweep up the glass. When I'm done I just sit on my bed and look up at them.
"I'm really tired and I had an interesting enough day, may I please be left alone?"
"Okay." My mom says and leaves the room.
"You're a good liar." He says looking at me with the same smile he always smiles while looking at me and only me.
"Yeah maybe. I say with a sigh. I really don't mean to be rude or anything but I'm really not in the mood for company at the moment, I'm really tired and annoyed and it's just that so much emotions are running through me and I don't want to be even more angry than I already am."
"I understand how you feel and I'm really sorry for exp loading on you, the thing is, Jace is just not someone someone as sweet and innocent as you should be around. I've witnessed him destroy other people and I don't want the same for you."
"Oh." Was all I could say because my brain really didn't want to process anything.
"Well I just though I'd warn you, see you later Val." He says and heads to the door.
"Uhm, call you later?" I ask as he looks at me.
"Sure." He smiles and exits my room. I listen for a while and hear him head down the stairs and then it was silent again. I lay down and drift into a deep sleep.
I later awake to the face of someone. I rub my eyes and of course it's Jace. I mean why wouldn't it be? He sits in a chair and looks at me.
"I can tell you sleep a whole lot. You slept for 4 hours straight and I wasn't even sure if you'd ever wake up any time soon." He says shaking his head.
"Yeah well, sleep is important to me and besides, I sleep all of my problems and stress away. Got a problem with that?" I say yawning.
"Not at all." He says watching me sit up."
"I thought not. I say taking down my hair. Why are you even here and why in the hell did you throw that huge book through my window?? I mean gosh, I could understand if you had threw it in while my window was actually up but no, you just thought, oh it's fine if her window isn't down, I mean no one's around to hear her window break anyway!" I say rolling my eyes.
"You have a keen interest in creating vivid pictures I see. Allow me to paint one of my own, that book is something that you will need in the days to come. It will give you the answers to all the questions you'll have and trust me you'll have a lot. I can already see you're an inquirer. And to answer your question about breaking your window's glass, there isn't really a reason why I did it while your window was down you know.
"Oh so you weren't thinking about what could happen if you threw a large object at glass?"
"Yeah pretty much." He says shrugging.
"You have got to be kidding me!" I say getting up. Uh give me a second I need to pee really badly.
"Totally needed to know that thanks." He says as I go across the hall to the bathroom. While washing my hands, I look in the mirror and notice something happening to my eyes. There appears to be a golden speck in them. Oh my God... what is happening to me. I open and close my eyes but they're still there! What am I gonna tell mom? I think to myself. I close my eyes for five seconds and when I opened them they were gonna. Phew... I let out a sigh of relief. I quickly walk towards my room door and open it slowly. Of course Jace was poking through my things and looking at my trophies.
"Talk about an overachiever." He says putting my soccer trophy back in it's place.
"What you're mad because you're not used to winning anything?" I stick my tongue out at him.
"Keep your tongue in your mouth and I'm quite used to it, not too sure if you are." He smiles evilly. I roll my eyes for the hundredth time today and he laughs. I turn on my computer and go to Google translate. He comes over and stands next to me.
"What are you doing?" He questions me as I take the necklace out of my pocket.
"Trying to find out what this means. I hold it up to him.
"Wait..." He takes it from me and asks me for the book, I get it from underneath my bed and he holds it next to the book and my eyes almost come out of their sockets. The title of the book and the engravement on the necklace were exactly the same.
"What does it mean Jace?" I look at him and he steps away from me.
"What is it!? I scream as he jumps out the window again and disappears into the night. Ughhh!!! What is up with him and running off all the time? I turn off my computer and rest the necklace on the top of the book and slide it back under the bed. I turn off all the lights and go back to bed. I give up I swear... I just can't anymore...
