It should be physically impossible for one person to be this nervous.
It's now five minutes past seven and Cas is starting to think he imagined the whole thing. He's about to give up all hope but then he here's his door bell ring and he's back to being hopeful.
He open the door to a casually dressed Dean - boots, jeans, t-shirt, plaid shirt and a leather jacket - looking nervously at him.
"Hey Cas." Dean says finally meeting Cas' eyes.
"Hello Dean." Cas replies, surprised at how calm he sounds.
"So you ready to head out?" Dean asks, tilting his head in the direction of his car. Though it is a car the word doesn't do the vehicle justice. It's a four door, hard top, sleek black 1967 Chevrolet Impala. And it was beautiful.
"Yeah, I'll just grab my coat." Cas replies whilst turning back into his house to pick his coat up and grab his spare keys. "You have a very nice car Dean." Cas says, trying to keep up the conversation.
"You're damn right she is! I've worked my ass off on her and it was worth every second." Dean exclaims gesturing at his car whilst they walk towards it.
Cas just nods his head in agreement and slides into the shotgun seat. The engine purrs to life and then they are driving off down the road. Not long into the journey Cas leans toward the radio to change the station but gets his hand slatted away by Dean before he can reach it.
"House rules Cas, Driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cake hole."
"Okay... Where exactly are you taking me Dean? We've been driving for twenty minutes now." Cas asks.
"It's a surprise. And besides we're almost there." Dean states.
Ahead of them is nothing but open road, but on the left there is what looks to be a lake amongst some trees.
"Are we going to the lake?" Cas asks.
"Maybe..." Dean replies teasingly.
Cas gives him a look that let's him know that he is done with all the mystery so dean just tells him that, yes, they're going to the lake. Cas smirks to himself for the small victory and then they are pulling off the road and heading down a track towards the lake.
It's a bumpy track and Cas could tell by the look on Deans face that he isn't thrilled about driving down it, but the fact that he is anyway makes Cas think that he Dean maybe does really like him.
When the car stops they are at a clearing, in front of them is the lake that is glowing in the moon light and there are trees surrounding the rest of the space. Without the purring of the engine everything is silent. All that can be heard is the chirp of various insects and the calls of birds. It was secluded, peaceful and absolutely breath taking.
"It's lovely here Dean." Cas says quietly in awe of there surroundings.
"Yeah, it is isn't it." Dean agrees.
They sit there in comfortable silence for for a few minutes before Dean shakes his head and exits the car and heads for the trunk. Cas slowly follows suit but heads to the lake instead of the trunk. While Cas stares at the lake, behind him Dean states at him. All Dean can see is a dark silhouette of Cas and the glowing lake in the background.
Dean pulls his phone from his to take a picture but forgets that the sound is on and the sound echos across the the lake startling Cas.
"Did you just take a photo of me?" Cas asks, his head tilted slightly to the side.
"Yeah..." Dean replies awkwardly.
"Let me see it." Cas says making his way towards Dean.
"No, it's mine!" Dean replies holding the phone out of Cas' reach.
"Come on Dean! Show me it!" Cas complains practically climbing Dean to get to the phone. This carries on until they are both in a heap on the ground and Cas is holding the phone looking at the picture.
"Oh, that's actually a nice picture.." Cas says solemnly.
"Yes. Now you've seen it give my phone back and get off of me!" Dean says grabbing for his phone.
"Fine." Cas says letting Dean take it from his grasp, and getting up off of him. "What's this?" Cas asks picking up a picnic basket.
"It's what I was going to show you before practically pounced on me." Dean states, "Come on the car should have cooled down a bit by now." he says getting up and heading to the car with the basket. Cas looks at him confused but follows anyway. He understands when he sees Dean climb on the the bonnet of the car and sit down.
He pats the space next to him and says, "Come on, there's plenty of space for two."
So that's how they spend the evening sat on the bonnet eat pie, drinking beer and talking about anything and everything that comes to mind. The moon is high in the sky and the stars are blinking brightly before they decide that its too cold to be out any longer. Dean drives Cas home and they part with the promise to go out again soon leaving Dean to drive home with a smile permanently plastered to his face.
