Chapter 1

There I was in the orphanage in my room listening to music overthinking life and decisions and what i could have done differently "could i have saved them?" the question constantly going around my head,I felt nothing but a mix of anger and sadness I couldn't stop crying and blaming myself every other night, i even started to worry the caretakers and my friends alike. i found my way to the bathroom in an attempt to wash my face,but after seeing my reflection in the mirror i couldn't help but want to rid of it and in less then a second i swung my fist forward and it found its way piercing right through the mirror glass shards of different sizes stabbing my hand's skin.
i closed my eyes From the pain wondering if it was really a good idea,but it felt good and easy.
i found the courage to open my eyes again to the sight of my hand although a bleeding mess was covered in fur all the way up to my shoulder.
In shock i pulled out my hand but flinching due to the shards.i stood staring at my arm for what felt like a whole 10 minutes.
"w-what?!" I yelled still in disbelief to the point i pinched myself multiple times to check if it was a dream even though the glass shards did an already good job at that,yet a smile grew on my face and i screamed in excitement this time,but after some time the fur disappeared, i tried swinging my arm times and times again hoping for it to grow back but to my disappointment it didn't.
one thing for sure was that i could finally call myself a beastmen even if it was for a while.
I tried sleeping after treating my hand but i couldn't hold the thought in.
impatiently i found myself into Layla's room a friend i made and knew in here for 6 years straight,lucky for me she wasn't asleep yet.
"Lyla!! hand-f-fur beastman!!!" i stuttered unable to make the simplest of sentences.
"Uhm are we having a low blood sugar moment?" she questions obviously concerned
"IM A BEASTMAN!!!"i yell as she automatically covers my mouth and scolds me for yelling in the middle of the night."what?"she asks taking some time to process.
after calming down and taking the time to explain everything. Although she looked confused halfway through the story she had unexpectedly taken the rest pretty well.
"So you grew fur an hour ago?" she asked
"Yes!"
"And you're sure you took nothing that could possibly get you to hallucinate?" she asked again in doubt
"Of course not!" i asure her not even believing she would think something like that.
"Do you have proof,can you do it again?"
"No..i already tried"
"hm" she stares at my hand and takes a few glances at me."So what do you think?" i ask hesitantly.
"If you were lying id be able to pick up on it since you're a lousy liar,no offense." i flinch at the statement.

"Maybe you're just a late bloomer but i still don't know,I'm honestly shocked."
i stay silent and let her talk.

"Have you thought of going to Animacity?"She asked in a sure way but the question still takes me off guard.
"A little but maybe it's a bad idea" i let out obviously unsure as i see Lyla's face form into an angry frown obviously not satisfied with my answer.
"Mihiro Akido how can you be so stupid??,Wasn't it always your dream to live amongst the beastmen!"
"y-yeah,but-"
"NO buts i am not gonna stand here and let you pass this opportunity. it would make a good change of pace since you cry and make noise every night and it's annoying." ok now I'm just embarrassed-
She calms down "It's not going to be easy,the only way to the city is by boat but that shouldn't be a problem since there is always one, getting to the docks is the hard part because of the beastmen hunter pricks and there is the money issue"
It takes me some time to process what she said but i take it all in and nod in understanding.
She then crouches down under her bed and pulls a metal box and pulls Some money off of it then she points it to me "here take this and don't think about refusing i have enough and if you combine it with what you have, it will last you a while"i stand there for some time then take the money,no point in arguing with her.

"you should leave at earnest the roads are almost empty and there is a high chance you won't encounter any hunters."
"You really want to get rid of me don't you" i comment playfully.
"Oh shut it,i just want you to be happy!"She punches my shoulder "playfully"
"And try not to screw things up like you always do" she adds
"ouch thanks for the vote of confidence" i frown at her
"I'm really gonna miss you..so you better text me you dip!"
"ill try not to leave you on read" we both Laugh and then hugged eachother goodnight.

-Morning/5 am-

luckily the alarm didn't fail me and so i woke up packed everything of usefulness (clothes money phone and precious mangas) and sneaked my way out of the building Lyla was never good at good byes so i didn't bother waking her up since leaving was already hard enough as it is.

i took the bus and dropped at a stop nearest to the docks and walked the rest. and as Lyla predicted and luckily for me i didn't come across any Assholes.
Arriving to destination. the dock was bigger then i expected, it already had several big boats and it didn't seem like the usual low budget ones and i guess that's where the money comes in.
But it was silent. way too silent so i got closer to a long and large boat and knocked on it but no response i knocked again and again the knocking faster and louder as i got more inpatient frustrated that all of this might have been in vain.
"Yes Yes I'M COMING!" a loud raspy and obviously annoyed voice calls out from the interior of the ship makes me immediately stop.
"Gosh i can't even count money in peace-" a Girl with purple hair and dark skin tone that looks like a scientist comes out and as I'm analysing her i notice her staring at me. i cough
"Uhm hello my name is Mihiro is this the boat that leads to Animacity?"
"What do you think?" she says in a tone implying sarcasm with a grin on her face but realizes how un-amused i look.
"Yes it is,The name is Marie.You got the money?"
i sigh as i pull out the money needed and pay her up.

Today marks the beginning of my future in Animacity.
