thirty three | the letters

CHRIS' POV

AFTER HAILEY AND I WENT APART, a hole in my heart was feeling empty. I wished I can just grab her and kissed her but I know she must be talking to her family now.

I was standing in front of my family, mother and father were glancing at me with a stern expression all over their faces. Here we go again.

"You idiot brother, how could you abandoned your family?!" Caleb shouted while pointing at me.

"Caleb, it's his choice and not that we care about it anyway," Celine remarked at Caleb. She looked away from me and started taking out her phone from her bag. It was not like I care about her anyway.

My mother and father just kept silent and pretended to stare at me, but deep down I know that they were thinking hard about Donovan, I guess.

"I met uncle Donovan," I stated.

My gut felt that they would gasp when I said this.

And the truth was, it was.

My parents were still tight-lipped meanwhile Caleb and Celine gaped at me. My little brother had no idea what was going on.

I don't need everyone's explanations.

"I'm going out," I said calmly.

And my journey from rich to poor began. Haha, I suppose I should work somewhere and continued school in the meantime.

THIRD PERSON POV

When Hailey and Christian decided to move on and abandoned their family for the meantime because of the shocking reason that made their families became enemies, they had no choice but made their own living by themselves.

Hailey headed back to Atlanta, whereas Christian was still in Los Angeles.

Hailey went back to her penthouse with Mandy and told her the reason while weeping her heart out. Chris' mood was also the same, but he forced himself to be strong and for him, there was no time to yell his heart contents out. He needed a plan to make everything under control and settled once and for all for the Petersons' and Arrington's family. With zero whereabouts of Christian, he secretly made a living all by himself without his family's knowledge.

One month later after the shocking truth, a letter was received by both Hailey and Christian. It was from both of their families, sending sincere apologies from the bottom of their hearts. 

Hailey opened her mysterious letter and she seemed shocked at the sight of it.

Dear Hailey,

We, the Arrington's family apologize from our bottom of the heart.

Hailey chuckled when the opening of the letter was very formal. But she proceeded to read the rest of the letter.

The truth is we don't want to let you know the truth because we really didn't care about you at first. You are just a mere problem for us when Hadley, your twin sister died from a motorcycle accident. We began to ignore you because we don't want to shower and spoil you our love for you just like we did to Hadley before. Hadley is spoiled at the beginning because of our endless love to her, she then began to defy our words from time to time and suddenly went out from home, that's when she died from the motorcycle accident. Because we don't want to lose you just like Hadley, we became cold to you. We were so sorry Hailey. Your grandparents also wanted the best for you but we had no choice when you started dating with Christian. So we ignored you until you break up with him. Again, we were so sorry.

Hailey's tears began to slip from her cheeks. She really didn't know all of this. But deep down, she still hadn't forgiven them. Hailey hid her letter inside her drawer and continued studying for her last high school exams.

Meanwhile, Chris didn't bother to read his letter from his family. All the explanations from Donovan were already enough for him.

But he got the urge and couldn't help it to sneak a peek from the letter. All he read was Caleb's jealousy toward him because Christian basically got everything that he wanted and Celine didn't bother to care for her little brother because she cared more for her modelling career. His parents didn't know how to respond to him but eventually apologize along with his grandparents in his letter.

The only thing that Christian did was smile at the letter. He also hid the letter at his drawer and began to work hard for his future.

But this was just the middle of the beginning and the end of their story.
