The memory of my past haunts me almost every night in my dreams. It’s like God is trying to tell me something. I was dreaming about winning my Martial Arts medal when I was ten and my parents got me a puppy.
“Oh, my gosh! Thank you!” I hug my parents, amazed and grateful for my new dog.
“You’ve been working so hard, so we thought you deserved something special.” my dad winks. He had shirt black hair with dark eyes. He looked intimating but he had a gentle personality.
“What are you going to name him?” my mom asked about my new dog who was trying to escape out of my arms. He was brown and black just like any Rottweiler.
“Cerberus!” I answered with a big grin, making sure he wouldn’t fall out of my arms.
“Cerberus?” my dad asked, sharing a weird expression with my mom.
“Yeah!” I nodded, giggling.
“Like the three-headed dog from the Underworld?” my mom asked.
“You’re naming your dog after a Greek dog that doesn’t exist?” my dad asked.
“Greek Mythology is cool!” I admitted.
“I guess you must really like Greek.” my mom chuckled.
The dream changed and I was getting ready to walk Cerberus. I open my door and walked down the three steps.
“Hello, there.” a lady with brown hair and blonde high-lights says holding a pie.
Her big blue eyes, stared down at me and a man walks out of a black SUV to walk next to her. She looked as if she were from the 70’s and he didn’t look like her type because he didn’t dress like her. He dressed like how men look today. Nice pants and a button-up white shirt.
“Hi…” I say uncomfortably, taking a step back.
“We just moved in a few doors down and we just want to get to know our neighbors.” the lady says and I noticed a silver tooth in the back of her both on the left where her wisdom tooth would be. I found that pretty strange.
“Are your parents home?” the guy asks.
“Yeah.” I nod innocently.
“Okay, we’ll just knock and introduce ourselves. You can go ahead and walk your dog.” the lady says with her creepy smile.
I turned and walked away, shivering. She gave me goosebumps with her big smile and eyes. The guy looked handsome and calm but also…strange.
I walk Cerberus six houses down and I hear two gunshots that made me jump. I stopped walking and turned to find a black SUV driving away fast. I watched it drive past me and I couldn’t see who was in it because of the tinted windows. My heart was racing as I ran towards my house to check on my parents. Cerberus was dragging along.
When I walked up to my house, the door was wide open. I walk up the steps and took a step in my house. My parents’ bodies laid on the living room floor with blood on them and on the carpet.
“Mom. Dad.” I called but no response. I walk over to them and sat in the space between them.
The neighbors barged in ten minutes later after hearing the shots and found me crying my eyes out. They called 911 right away and pulled me away from the bloody bodies.
I wake up out of the nightmare and found myself with tears all over my face and sweat on my forehead. I hear a noise outside my room, so I scooted closer to my bat that was next to my bed. My door creeks open and it was Cerberus. I sigh in relief. He manages to climb on my bed and lies next to me.
