it's monday, the start of my third week at greendale. i was sitting at the front of my spanish class, listening to señor chang go i'm about something that definitely wasn't spanish. i just copied whatever nonsense he had written on the board and prayed that i passed the next quiz.

as i looked up at the board again a girl walked into the classroom. she long, dark brown hair, tan skin, and dark brown eyes that seemed to be emotionless, most like the rest of her face.

"is this spanish?" she asked blankly, her expression not shifting a bit.

"it depends, who's asking?" señor chang responded.

"i'm april ludgate, your new student."

chang's face lit up with realization, "ah, miss ludgate. yes, i remember." he looked at the class and shook his head, showing he didn't, "why don't you take a seat right up front next to miss edison."

he pointed to the seat beside me and april sat down into it. i flashed her a smile as she looked at me. she responded with a slight wave, but no smile, keeping the same blank face.

okay, so she's probably nervous. it'll take a bit more time to get her to like me, but that's okay. all i know is that i want to get to know her, i have to get to know her. she seems so hard to read, so i'm sure she's interesting, and probably really sweet.

before long class was over. i approached her as everyone began to file out.

"hi! i'm annie edison!" i said cheerfully.

"hey, i'm april ludgate.", she replied.

nope, still no signs of life here.

i continued anyways, "me and a few of my friends have a study group. we meet every afternoon in study room f. you wanna come? you can copy all the notes you've missed, and we can try to get you caught up."

"okay, cool. thanks." she said with a small nod, not no smile yet.

i smiled at her anyways, "alright, cool! see you then!"

i told the group that day at lunch.

"hey guys!" i said as i sat down.

they all responded with their various forms of hellos.

"did you guys see that new girl today? talk about weird and mysterious." troy said.

"yeah, that girl was so emotionless. that's never a good sign." shirley looked at abed, "no offense, abed."

he shrugged, "none taken. she's emotionless in a way that makes her seek intimidating, whereas i'm emotionless in a more neutral way."

"yeah, about that..." i finally spoke up, "i invited her to study with us today."

"what? why?" jeff questioned.

"because she got a late start. i thought we could help her catch up."

jeff shook his head, "nope. bad idea."

"i think it's a great idea." britta finally voiced her opinion.

"you're just saying that because you wanna bump clams with her, or whatever it is you lesbians do." pierce said.

no one acknowledged his comment.

"come on jeff, please?" i said, giving him my best pout.

he rolled his eyes, "i can't say no to you. you're too innocent."

i squealed a little, "thank you guys."

i then noticed april in the corner of the cafeteria.

"i'm gonna go sit with april, see you guys later!" i said as i made my way to where the mysterious brunette was sitting.

"hi!" i said as i sat down.

"annie, hi." she said blankly as i sat down.

at least she remembered my name. i kind of expected her to forget it.

"so, how's your first day at greendale going?" i asked.

"okay, i guess." she answered.

"anything exciting happen?"

"no, not really."

i sat there, trying to think of what to say next. i was trying to have a conversation with her, but she wasn't making it easy at all.

"you still coming to study group tonight?" i asked.

"yeah." she looked up at me, a hint of defensiveness in her voice, "why, do you not want me to?"

"yes! yes i do want you to! i was just asking."

"okay, good, because i'm coming."

well, that wasn't intended to get a rise out of her, but it worked. maybe she does like me.

i smiled at her, "april ludgate, something tells me we are going to be best friends."

"annie edison, i will bury you alive."

i knitted my brows, "with love?"

she nodded, "yeah, okay."
