Caleb

The dark room was flooded by a pulse of light which blazed from Fury's silver eyes. As the light dimmed, her white hair fell back down around her shoulders. Caleb dropped his hand from over his eyes, stepping back. Both his heart and his thoughts raced at breakneck speeds. She forgot to mention exactly what he would be doing while she was "out there".

Deciding to investigate the pitch black room that they had barricaded themselves into, he appreciated the dim glow her silver eyes provided. Attempting to distract himself from how corpse-like she looked he told himself he would thank her later. He cleared a table covered in cleaning products with a sweep of his arm. Sitting on it, he watched her for any sign of movement. Don't take too long, he sighed.

Fury

Fury recoiled as a bolt of energy exploded in front of her feet. She sent a blast in return. She cursed at herself when the crescent wave missed her target but smirked when it took out a whole city block. I doubt he'll make it out of that one, she liked to imagine it was her footsteps that was causing the rumbling.

The battle wasn't exactly how she thought it would be, her lessons had given her the impression that every move would've been calculated months in advance and that groups would be strategic and steadfast in every action. The sheer carnage had dissolved that facade. Buildings lay like giant corpses across sidewalks. Stragglers cowered in fear behind cover, some had wild looks in their eyes and attacked anyone they saw. She whipped blasts of energy this way and that. Taking out the dishonorable with each sharp motion of her arms.

She relished in the fact that screams echoed over the sounds of explosions. The two sides clashed violently against each other at this singular point stretching miles in either direction. I would take them all if I had the time, something sinister flashed in her eyes.

Caleb

Thundering footsteps pouring into the building woke Caleb from his nap. His knife flew into his hand as he made his way across the room. Placing a shaky hand to the barricaded door, he got a mental image of what was happening on the other side. Four soldiers in the enemies uniform were clearing rooms. Two of the men had silver eyes, he was relieved when he noticed the vanguard insignias on their jackets. Looking back at Fury he thought, come on you shouldn't be taking this long.

Backing away from the door he sent two currents into it. One would protect it from brute force and the other would render basic seer abilities useless. He whirled around, flinging his arms in either direction. From one flew a simple sentry from his lessons. The other released an orb which bounced off the back wall and rolled towards the door.

He already knew that they wouldn't open the door, the defenses were just in case. Knowing that the strategies he'd learned about from his teachers weren't always followed completely, he sat back down on the table determined to stay awake.

Fury

Few turned back for long enough to notice her, but those who did Fury silenced instantly. She walked confidently, feeling invulnerable. Without the restrictions placed on her by her teachers, her mind ran wild with ideas. Picking one that would've been particularly frowned upon, she suddenly appeared in the densest part of the enemy line.

A shock wave erupted from her, sending the soldiers on either side of her flying. The other side of the battle was revealed as the dust settled. Floating above the now charging front line was a familiar face who had prepared an attack on the enemies she had just displaced. She locked eyes with her brother for a moment before he was knocked out of the sky by a large chunk of debris.

Her blood boiling, she teleported into the air narrowly avoiding a lash of energy. With no hesitation she unleashed a powerful beam of energy from her hands towards the troops below. She incinerated the enemy line, ignoring the searing pain which crept up her hands from her fingers. She saw her target then, his black uniform clashing violently against the red of his allies. The beam whipped towards him, decimating the unfortunate souls in its wake. The burning sensation reached her shoulders as the beam burned brighter, yet she continued funneling the rest of her energy into the beam. Even as her vision began to darken and fade.

Caleb & Fury

There was a thud at the door when they tried to kick it in, then there was a brief silence. Caleb prayed his defenses would hold. The silver light from Fury's eyes permeated the room once again. He leapt from the table evoking shouts from the men on the other side of the door.

Fury blinked, looking around she started, "I didn't mean to-"

"You took too long, get behind something. Quick," Caleb rushed to stand next to the door, bracing himself.

A stream of energy sent the door flying open. As soon as it did, the orb flew out and into the group. A loud crack echoed throughout the building as it shattered, they screamed as chunks of crystal impaled their flesh. Pressing his hand to the wall, Caleb looked at Fury and signalled to her that there were two left.

She raised an arm, channeling some energy to her hands, cradling her arm when the pain caused her to cry out. Caleb listened to the men's footsteps as they rushed them. The first was struck by the sentry, left with a large hole in his chest. Swinging through the doorway, Caleb took the second down, sinking his knife deep in his neck. He wrenched it out of his neck and wiped it across the man's uniform before sheathing the blade.

"What was that?" he asked Fury.

It all hit her at once. She started sobbing, wincing as her tears touched her skin.

Noticing the burns running up her arms, he wordlessly moved to sit beside her.
