Dev and his dream

Short story

As Dev was on his way to meet his friend John he recalled the bizarre dream of Riya's death he had the previous night. Dev was once considered a role model due to his splendid character and remarkable contribution towards the company. Two years ago, his life took a hit when his marriage turned into a disastrous experience. Riya was Dev's ex-wife. Their unintended love turned into a complicated relationship resulting in divorce. Exhilarating experience of love has now become a memory for Dev. The reason for their divorce is unknown to people around them.

So, to understand why he had such a dream he met his friend turned psychologist Dr. John. John and Dev are childhood buddies. He explained to John as to how he saw Riya being hit by a white car that had a sticker on its window near a church. After a brief counseling session, Dev went back to his office. He had turned into an outcast in his office due to widespread rumors that spread speculating his divorce. Suzy was his only friend in the office. Suzy, Dev, and Riya were college friends.

Dev continued having the same dream every day. So, he started collecting visual clues to find the place in his dream. The clues were - White car with a sticker on its window, Church and a Seashore. He then tried finding Riya. But, he couldn't reach her. Two weeks later, Dev who was about to give up on his bizarre dream came across the same car. To his surprise, it was parked outside his office. Dev was utterly dismayed when he found out that the car belonged to Suzy.

Dev and John then began suspecting Suzy due to her strange behavior since the day she received a phone call. She even rushed out of the office giving lame excuses. Dev tried following her but lost her on the way. He then hired a detective to follow Suzy. Three days later, Dev was informed by the detective that Suzy visits a church every day exactly at 10 am. He at once understood that something was fishy as he remembered the church from his dream. The next day, Dev reached the church before Suzy. He was startled to find Riya there. Riya then told him that she was kidnapped by Suzy as she found out that Suzy was the one who created various misunderstandings between Dev and Riya. Betrayal of his best friend had hit him hard. As they were about to leave Suzy arrived at the church. Suzy then tried hitting Riya using her car but Dev stopped her. Dev then demanded an explanation from Suzy. Suzy then explained herself as to how she loved Dev even before Riya entered his life. So she turned their harmonious relationship into divorce by creating misunderstandings. Dev tried talking some sense into her. Suzy who once had a kind heart and admirable character had now turned into a vicious person out of pure jealousy. She was then taken into police custody. Dev and Riya then lived happily ever after.
