Lauren

Why did Alex invite me to dinner, I don't know him, I don't like him, and I have a very long day tomorrow. It's 6 o'clock right now and I'm still working, but I need to get cleaned up soon. I drag myself upstairs to my shower and when I get out it's like 6:10. I get dressed in this and do very light make-up.

I get in my truck and drive over to Alex's house and notice the nice little car in the driveway

I get in my truck and drive over to Alex's house and notice the nice little car in the driveway. I get out and knock on the front door, Alex's mom opens the door for me.

"Lauren, you look nice." Mrs. Black says

"Thank you." I smile

"Supper should be done in about 10 minutes." Mr. Black says

"K," I say

I look around the house, there's fancy white furniture everywhere and sophisticated artwork on the walls, modern lighting. Man, these people are fancy, but I guess that's Chicago.

"So what made you guys move all the way down here?" I ask

"Well, Mark's job got moved down here so we moved with it, and please call me Sofia." Sofia replies

"So, what do your parents do?" Mark asks

"They go around the country and world, and they show horses, ride in rodeos, and the help struggling ranchers get back on their feet so they can hold events, but right now, there doin' PRCA rodeos across the country," I reply

"So you just stay by yourself all the time." Sofia simplifies

"I wouldn't say by myself, the people that work for us live in the bunkhouse and my cousins are around and now with the engagement, they'll be around a lot more, but I'm never alone," I say

"Nice place." I compliment

"Thanks, you're probably not used to this much white," Sofia says

Dinner came out a little over half an hour ago and even though it's only 7:30 I'm worn out. I let out a yawn and lean back in my chair.

"How long have you been up?" Alex asks

"Five-ish," I reply

"That's way too early," Mark says looking at me

"In this way of life, we get up early and don't go to sleep until the sun goes down," I say standing up

"And I hate to cut this short, but I have to get up super early tomorrow," I speak

"I'll walk you out." Alex pipes up

Alex guides me out the door and opens the driver's side door for me.

"Hey, I'll see you later," Alex tells me

"Not unless you wanna come over at like midnight tomorrow night." I laugh

"We're hauling' cattle and I gotta go with to sign all the papers," I add

"Well be safe." Alex half demands

I allow Alex to give me a hug before I drive off.
