STILL POINT
by harveyelliotMost people say that the end of a book describes its worth. To me, it's quite the opposite. People judge a book by its cover, by its title and blah blah blah— but, for yours truly, she's a "beginning" fanatic. Despite that, I truly and heartily believe in one saying by Graham Greene from his book THE END OF THE AFFAIR: "A story has no beginning or end: arbitrarily, one chooses that moment of experience from which to look back or from which to look ahead."
Last week, while swiping down the recommendations on my Wattpad home screen, I came across this extraordinary book with a brilliant beginning (just how I like it, aesthetic). It is titled, STILL POINT, written by harveyelliot. It's a seventeen page long story with estimated 17000+ words all together. One thing that I cannot help but say is that the writer is a wizard of words. Obviously, it's an LGBTQ+ delight.
The story circles around two young adults, Wesley Chao and Wyatt Carter, amidst dysfunctional families and heartbreaks.
What I love about the story, aside from the intriguing plot, is that it doesn't jump into the lives of the pivotal characters from the inception. The story focuses on various aspects like Wesley's addict mother, his poetries, Wyatt's series of heartbreaks, his friend Tobi, and a multitude of others, somewhat reminding me of the narrative of THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR.
The boys don't meet each other immediately, as they do in most other love stories. The author takes time to set the premise, and doesn't rush into superficial elements, further increasing the readers' thirst for more. The aspects of the story that have captivated me are: the narrative, the plot, the alluring elements here and there, the character development, and above all, the presentation.
The way a writer palates his words defines how much of his heart he has given to the art.
I, as a BoyxBoy fiction aficionado, look for true romance in them and not just sex (as most BoyxBoy fictions contain).
STILL POINT is one such underappreciated story that should be read by all woke readers across Wattpad. I highly recommend it. Go check it out.
