6 years earlier

Muffled voices came from all around me. My ears didn't know what too hear, everything was going in one and coming out the other.

My body felt heavy, every time I tried too move nothing responded. I couldn't even twitch my finger or open my eyes without feeling agonising pain.

The faint sound of a beep was coming from the right side off me. It made my head pound every time.

"Where's Calum?"

What was this woman talking about, I was clearly right here.

"He's right here" I heard Luke's voice, it was reassuring to hear someone familiar.

"I'll be right back...I...er...need to go talk to my colleges" the woman sounded worried but I could quite pick up her emotions as I couldn't actually see her.

I heard the door slam and footsteps came towards me, who I assumed were Luke's.

"Calum, mate, can you hear me?" by the way his voice was low and husky, he sounded worn out. "Even if you can't I want you too know I'll always be here for you. You've been the best friend I could've ever wished for, and I honestly don't know what'd do without you" I heard him sigh then walk away from me.

A few moments later I heard the door close for the second time, and I was left in the dark once again.

~~~~~~~
"Calum! Calum wake up!" This voice was unfamiliar but whoever this was they were shaking me attempting to wake me up.
I opened my eyes too be surrounded by beaming lights targeting me. I sat up and noticed I was in a small room with all the walls painted white.
A young woman was sat next too me. She had short brown hair and was covered head to toe in white clothing.
"Am I in heaven?" This was so much too take in. I couldn't of died, I'd only hit my head.
"No your not Calum." she looked down at the tablet which was in her hand. I tried to look at what was on the screen but she moved it out my view.
"Where am I and how do you know my name?"
"I'm Linda I'm your safety counsellor" she still didn't take her eyes away from the screen in her hands, even when talking too me.
"Well Linda can you tell me why I'm here?" I was starting to get frustrated at her short answers I needed to get out of here and go home.
"Impatient one aren't you" she briefly looked up and smirked then focused back downwards towards the screen.
"Just tell me for goodness sake!" Who does she think she is! I have a right too know where I was and why.
"Well Calum you know you got hit in the head when you walked into that door yesterday?"
"Well yeah" I pointed to the bandage that was clearly on my head.
"That was meant to happen. Your part of a... let's say experiment. But there are a few terms and conditions, I'll explain them later"
"Why should I believe anything you say?"
"If my life depended on it I would too" she sternly looked up and fixed her eyes on mine "You have eight years to find love Calum. Real love. By that time you'll be twenty years old-"
I interrupted her not wanting too hear anymore of her rubbish.
"What if I don't want to do this?"
"As I already said, your life depends on it. If you don't find true love the second you turn twenty years old you'll loose your life"
I sat and thought about this for a moment. I was only twelve there's not way I could be in love. Well I suppose there was one girl in my class that I liked.
"What if I'm already in love?"
She let out a small laugh then spoke.
"Calum your only twelve you can't be in true love just yet"
She got up out of her seat and walked towards the door that was just across the room.
"Oh yeah I forgot to mention, only the ones who love you can see you" and with that she smiled and walked away. Leaving me with my jaw on the floor.
