I woke up to the smell of eggs which led me straight to the kitchen the next morning. Leo was preparing some scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. He was in a vest and sweat pants looking more delicious than the food he was preparing. It instantly took me back to a memory."Beth?"
"Mmh?" I quipped watching him cook us breakfast, more like googling.
Leo was smirking over his shoulder as he asked, "how do you like your eggs? Scrambled, poached or fertilised?"
"Scra-...Leo!" I screamed with a banana smile settling on my face.
The sound of a pot falling snapped me out of my thoughts.
"Fuck!" Leo cussed as he inspected his hand.
On instinct I rushed to his side and pulled him to the sink. "You know you're a clumsy cook, why didn't you ask Mrs Clinton to cook! Come let's put your hand under running water."
I put his hand under the tap and let the cold water run so that his hand wouldn't burn as much. I left it there and went to the fridge to get some ice. I put them in a cloth and approached Leo only to find him staring at me.
"What? Do I have something on my face?" I took his hand and firmly put it around the cloth with the ice cubes. "I will finish the breakfast. Take a seat."
"You still wear the ring." Leo said, his eyes trailing to the wedding band that was in a chain around my neck on full display due to the robe I was wearing.
I cleared my throat as I glanced at his left hand, "You too."
I walked over to the stove and finished cooking. I plaited for the both of us and we sat on the stools by the counter. Leo still hadn't spoken to me as he ate quietly and I was getting worried. "So are we going to ignore each other for the rest of our lives now? As it is you didn't even allow me to enter our bedroom." I broke the silence.
"I don't expect you to stay long anyway. My lawyer will be here this afternoon to go over the details of the divorce." Leo responded in a calm manner while continuing to eat his food.
This bothered me a lot. "Leo, please! I won't sign those papers."
My declaration made him stop with his fork midway. All of a sudden he let out a sick laugh, "I'm not asking Beth."
Deciding it was pointless to continue this topic knowing his stubborn ass, I changed it. "How did you know where I was this whole time?"
"I'm just a stupid love sick puppy that hired a bodyguard for you. It hurt me knowing you were out there somewhere without any protection, without me." Leo rubbed his hands over his face.
"Protection from myself you mean?" I arched a brow leaning back in my chair.
He shook his head defeated, "You know before you left that you were behaving..."
"Like a crazy person. Emotionally unstable as the psychiatrist put it. Paranoid and imagining things in simple terms." I finished the sentence for him.
"I was going to say that you were not yourself."
A loud crashing sound erupted throughout the entire mansion. I was already on high alert. Leo and I stood up simultaneously following the direction of the disturbance. The sounds grew louder and louder, it sounded like a struggle.
We were lead to the room I had slept in last night. Was someone snooping around in there. I held the door knob to open but Leo placed his hand on my shoulder to stop me, "Are you just going to open the door? Are you dumb or what Beth...step back."
I took a step back and watched as Leo drew a small pistol from the back of his sweatpants. He never used to carry any weapons on him so why now? I didn't get a chance to ask him as we entered the room cautiously.
Two figures could be seen on the balcony so we slowly approached as Leo kept me behind him the entire time. I picked up a statue on the way for defence.
"What is your business here? Who sent you?" A deep voice spoke from the balcony.
When we got to the sliding door we could see a male standing over a woman while hanging her head over the railing with his hands on her neck. The statue I was carrying hit against a chair drawing the attention to me.
The male whipped his head and I realised it was Christian. "Christian what are you doing? You could kill her!" I said in shock.
"Leave her alone and step back." Leo demanded, his gun pointed at Chris.
Christian held his hands up in surrender taking steps back, "She was snooping. I'd never hit a lady but this bitch just attacked me. I have scratches everywhere, she's like a fucking cat woman."
The woman raised her head and started rubbing her neck as she coughed. She was dressed in casual clothing. Her bright red hair covered her face as she straightened herself. "Thanks Lee." She said.
Lee? As in short for Leonardo! Who was she anyway calling my husband Lee? Freaking stupid name!
"What are you doing in my room?" I questioned already irritated she had her own nickname for my husband.
The woman pushed her hair back and turned to face me, "I thought I'd come say hie since you left without saying goodbye to me too."
As soon as I saw her face, the statue in my hand fell. "Cathy?"
