Systems Apart

A young sibling pair, maybe 11-12, was running down a busy street in an industrial area, the both of them carried some scrap metal they stole from a local junkyard, after a short while they disappeared into a large barred off sewage pipe where no adult could ever squeeze through. The two continued running through the dirty and slippery pipe before they reached a large opening, a maintenance area that seemed to not have been maintained, a lot of the machines were broken down and very old and even slightly scrapped. 

The younger sister went over to a little box containing some of those scrapped parts and wires, she was meticulously working on them, while the older brother was getting some tools ready, a welder, a soldering iron and a welding mask which he put on. His sister quickly grabbed the soldering iron from him and  put it on a large wooden table with a very brittle looking stool in front on which she promptly climbed. Before plugging the iron into a socket on the table, she was soldering together a circuit of sorts. Her brother was watching over her shoulder before asking "Are you sure that this will work Annabelle? "
She continued her work in silence after she finished the part she was working on she finally exclaimed annoyed "I know it will work, now be quiet and prepare the casing. " 
With that he slowly walks back to the welder where the scrap metal was placed, both of them now at work in this workshop of theirs.

A few hours passed before both almost simultaneously finished their pieces of work, he finished a casing shaped like a human and built out of scrap metal and spare parts from down here, complete with hydraulics and a tiny cockpit that could maybe fit a rat or an action figure. She built a full circuit which she properly set up over her small but very old datapad, she handed it to her brother and told him "Do not break it, this circuit took ages to make and if it breaks I will not make a new one. You remember the last time don't you Seridian? " 
He nodded like he got defeated "Three of my desserts and I needed to do your assignments for a week. For you to build this one. "
She gave a nod before grinning probably hoping for him to fumble it again. Seridian got to work placing the circuit into the casing, not breaking it this time, before welding it shut. Now was the test if their work paid off or if they have to make it anew. 

The siblings both held onto a remote before Anna pressed a button which was labeled forward, with a marker, the little metal human actually started walking forward with the hydraulics screeching because of the low amounts of liquid. The both started jumping around in a circle, happy as they could be. They tried the next command, Turn. It worked almost perfectly a few hiccups because of the badly implemented hydraulics, but it worked nonetheless. The both of them packed their things putting the little robot into the bag of him while she took the remote with her before running back home at full speed. Their home was a small shack the size of a garage, but it was the house for a family of four. Right as the the opened the door a white light took over his sight...

Seridian woke up to his alarm clock ringing loudly right into his ear. He punched right on top of it before running his hands over his soft-looking face and white dyed and gelled up hair. The blanket was only covering half his body, he had defined muscles but certainly not someone you would call strong. After another five minutes spent fully realizing that he just woke up, Seridian actually started moving his legs out from the bed and stood up. Building himself up to his full 1.88 meters (6'2"), he stretched himself before heading over to the bathroom, he was living in an apartment not far from the spaceport where he got work as a repairman, his sister was working in the same port but at a much more comfy position, she was, after all, much more intelligent than him and he knew it, but she could not coordinate her thoughts, which sometimes stressed her out. They were a perfect team to a degree. 

A sudden knock was on the door while he was brushing his teeth, he pulled up his datapad to see who was at the door. While thinking of the devil she actually came. Seridian opened the door to let her in to which she just barges in, her gaze was first upon the bed, which was a mess, before she actually turned to the bathroom where a pajama wearing Seridian was still brushing his teeth. Anna was tapping him on the shoulder, he quickly washed out his mouth before turning around to face her. Annabelle was not the biggest woman with 1.62 meters (5'3"), but she certainly had an attitude that would leave anyone stunned, at least those who did not grow up with her. Her long blonde hair, mixed with her always grumpy face was quiet a sight. He always teased her that the grumpy face is because of her flat chest, to which she usually replied with a well deserved punch. "Are you spacing out you numbskull? "
Anna blurted out before he snapped back into reality. He was still half asleep, who wouldn't be so short after waking up, he did utter the reply "Not so loud, I woke up not even ten minutes ago. " 

She had a confused stare and smirk before pointing at the clock, it read, Sunday 10 am. In his half asleep manner he only read the 10 am and fully missed the Sunday part, he started dressing so quickly that, if it were a speedrun, he probably just got the world record. Right when he was about to bounce out his door and leg it to his work she finally pointed it out to him. "It is Sunday, are you really that dense or are you just acting? " 
Seridian was now quiet annoyed and blurted out in a rude manner "Why the hell are you here then? Just to play a prank on me to torment my little soul? " 
She answer via a nod and pointed to his calendar app on the datapad, he opened it just to see an event for later 'Surprise at Hangar 11', he did not remember saving anything like that. And his sister just grinned the whole time, she would not tell anything, the event was planned for 11 am. 

"So what will this be? Am I getting fired and can finally retire? Getting a raffle prize maybe? Did they catch me doing something illegal that I have not done? " 
He was asking away sounding a little annoyed about this whole thing, but Anna only kept on grinning, she will not help, no matter what. Seridian sighed and just accepted it he was still going out of his room tho, his sister was quick to follow on his step before asking "Where are you going?! What are you planning? " 
He answered with the same dumb grin she gave him, no matter how old, these two will fight forever about these little things. After a short while it was clear where he was going, to a nearby cafe that was usually flooded by tourists, but due to the time there were yet to be all to many tourists, he got to the counter almost two minutes after queuing and ordered two macciatos and three donuts one of them with filling. After he received his order he handed one of the coffees to Anna and the filled donut.

The both were sitting on at the same table silently eating the donuts and drinking their coffee, this blissful silence got broken by a military vehicle roaring past them, straight toward the port, after a quick second of pause the next three came through, two heavily armored troop trucks and carrier for a phantom. All heading to the space port. While her face was turned away from her brother Annabelle grinned, she knew what and who that was. After everything drove past she turned around back to her stern look from before whilst she was finishing her donut. "It is about time we get going Seridian. " 
She said before looking straight into his eyes. Seridian gave a nod, it was around 10:45 by now and this 'event' was at 11. The both of them hurriedly made their way to the space port and took the tram to Hangar 11, a Hangar usually meant for freighter unloading and loading. It was about 10:55 as they arrive at Hangar 11, the forcefield was active and set to opaque no one could see in or out of it.

The clock to a new adventure was ticking its last five minutes, as the time was ticking away only Seridian did not seem to know what is going on.
