Chapter 1

I woke up to the ringing of the alarm clock on my phone.

I hated that sound.

A constant 1,2 of the same loud sound in different octaves. I would put a tune, but I would start relaxing and fall asleep again. I sat up and brushed the sleepiness out of my eyes as I prepared myself for the first day of senior high school.

I took a heavy breakfast of cereal with chopped up apples. I then took my backpack and my glasses and walked over to my front door.

My mom stopped me at the door with my new glasses.

"I got you these for you. I think you'll look good in them"

"Thanks ma"

She smiled and stared at my new uniform, a sense of pride glimmering in her eyes. Then she frowned.

"Minoru, I think it's time to make more friends, use this first day as an opportunity. I know it's hard for you to open up to people, but just give it a try okay?" She said as she brushed my black hair.

I smiled at her and took the new glasses. "Of course ma"

On that note I headed out.

"Hmph, make friends huh?" I thought to myself, my mom had always tried to get me to make some in school. I wasn't particularly a loner, I had classmates who would talk to me, but they would only ask me about a math question then hurry back to their friends.

Not that I blame the other students of course.

I walked along my normal route to school. A piano like breeze filled the air as the steps of students marched along in an uneven beat. Leaves and flowers rustled around like snares. The time has come again for a new year in school.

"Minoru Ryōta!" A girl's voice called out.

I sighed and turned around. It was the girl I knew since birth, Noa Shiori.

She was an athletic girl who had brown eyes and straight hair that was dyed blue. I guess she would be considered a friend since she was never afraid to talk to me, even after my father's incident.

"You promised to wait for me!" Noa pouted.

"Sorry, I was just so excited to start school"

Noa obviously wasn't fooled and it showed. Her brow tensed as she stared at me.

Then her brow relaxed and she touched my glasses.

"Hm, are these new?" Noa asked, taking the glasses away from me, totally changing my vision.

"Yes, my mother gave those to me this morning. Could you please give it back?" I asked the annoying blob in my vision.

I hated my eyes even though my mother and Noa tend to compliment them. What's the point of them being nice if I can't even see that well with them?

The annoying blob moved closer and placed my glasses back, clearing my vision to reveal an annoying girl smiling.

"Mino" Noa called to me. She nicknamed me that since 5th grade.

"Can you promise me something?"

I was suddenly tense.

Her requests were either impossible or downright weird.

Noa walked ahead and turned around dramatically. She lifted her arm and pointed at me.

"Can you promise me, that you'll join a club? Maybe even the one I'm in, it's not difficult I promise" she asked.
