Violet's POV
My bed was warm, Lavender Moon played silently on repeat and my cigarette burned filling the air with its musty scent.
The chess board was settled into the blanket, I waited for Tate to show himself. My heart sunk at the thought of him not coming.
I began to regret ever asking him to come, he was a monster. A psychopath.
My eyes watered.
Why was I so emotional? Why couldn't I move on from him instead of living in the past? Why did I love Tate?" Why are you crying?"
I looked up, Tate was sitting on the opposite side of the chess board with a pawn in his hand.
" I'm not crying." I said as I wiped a tear that escaped across my face.
He placed his pawn on one of the colored tiles.
" Your move." He smiled, his brown eyes gleamed, his familiar blonde hair was swept to its side.
I moved my knight forward.
I scanned him, gorging my eyes with every inch of him. He was so gorgeous.
I wanted him so badly. Seeing him, being with him almost made me forgive him. It almost made me forget. He filled this darkness inside of me, but he was still the darkness." Do you feel alone?" Tate asked intently as he block my rook from his queen.
" Sometimes." I lied.
" I don't." He moved his bishop.
" Why?"
" Because you're here." He said as he looked into my eyes.
I didn't know how to respond so I just smiled a bit.
" Why don't we continue this later..." He suggested as he placed the chess board on the attic floor.
He climbed from the edge of the bed to me, resting his head on his hand.
" Open house is tomorrow.." He said as he laid next to me, his eyes were filled with worry.
I obsessively traced his hand with my fingers. The last thing I was thinking of were those suckers buying this god forsaken shit hole.
" Yea.. I can't believe Marcy hasn't given up on this house." I said faintly.
He laughed softly,
We adjusted ourselves.
I was settled into the nook of his arm, he dropped kisses on my forehead as he wrapped his arm around me.
" Vi," he started, " I'm so sorry. I will never hurt you again. I will never let anyone ever hurt you. I promise. I lo-"
"Shh.." I whispered.
Tonight I wasn't alone, I didn't cry myself to sleep. I wasn't sad or drowning in any feeling. Tonight I was with Tate, tonight I was a little bit closer to what I was craving all these years.
