- Scarlett's POV -
It had been eighteen months living with Lucas since the incident and I couldn't thank him enough for taking me in. We had been really good friends for the past seven years when we met in university. He was always there when I needed him, and more now than ever recently. I would thank him everyday if I could, but eventually that got old fast. We were close to the point now that we were comfortable waking up in the morning seeing each other and fuming our morning breaths in each others faces which was all I really hoped this was going to be.
I had been a photographer for several years now, trying to get my work out there as much as possible. I usually photographed nature, or boho stuff, however I sometimes was inclined to do modeling. That was not a dream of mine, but that's what keeps my rent going, or what will keep it going until I get a serious job. Being blunt, I could've lived in my old apartment, but I hardly felt safe anymore after everything especially in LA. I had security, somebody I trusted, and that was Luke.
"What've you been up to?" Luke said as he came through the door dropping off his keys.
"Attempting to figure out how to fix a sink." I said and bit my lip uneasy.
"The sink broke again? Why didn't you call me?" Luke laughed and took off his coat.
"It's the sixth time it's happened, I figured I'd let you off today." I said, scrolling through google pages.
"I'll have it replaced soon, sorry It keeps going off on you." He chuckled opening the cabinet underneath the kitchen sink.
"It's fine." I laughed. "I think that bottom ring thing keeps coming lose and that's why it's spraying." I sighed and went over to the sink to show him.
"Which one?" Luke said, as I knelt beside him and pointed to it.
"I'll fix it, no big deal." He smirked and rubbed my back as I got up. "By the way my manager found this really good modeling gig if you're interested. I know you don't like working with assholes, and it just so happens I know the guy who you'd be modeling with."
"Really?" I laughed. "On a scale from 1-10 how assholey is he, because just my luck every single one I've worked with turned out to be one."
"I've known this guy since I was 15 years old, trust me he's cool." Luke laughed and stood up from the sink after rummaging underneath it.
"I suppose I'll have to meet him to see. When and where is it?" I smiled.
"Fluorescent modeling agency, it's down the block." He ran the sink, water flowing out normally. "And I believe it's at 2PM Saturday?"
"Well, thanks. Hopefully it goes well. Could you give me the number and I'll let them know I'll be there." I smiled pulling out my phone.
"No need, I already said you were." Luke laughed sitting on the couch.
"But you just asked me?" I said puzzled.
"Yeah, but I knew you'd say yes." He smirked flicking the channels on the TV.
I rolled my eyes and sighed as I went back to my laptop. I frequently searched for places in LA that looked like good photography shots. I had been to almost every place in LA it felt like, but I refused to stop searching.
I had always had good shots that I liked, but recently nothing that really lit up to me. Hoping I'd find a place I'd sometimes roam the pier, or even the park with a small digital camera. Nothing felt like it was worth photographing, I was losing inspiration but quickly dismissed the thoughts of letting my dream go. I sometimes fell into these deep holes of despondency, though I tried my hardest not to show it.
Before I knew it the day was rolling by and I had photographed nothing. It was 9:00PM and If I was going to go to a photoshoot tomorrow I had to to get as much rest as possible, I had always had a hard time falling asleep. I shut my laptop and got ready for bed, rolling into bed sluggishly in dismay since I barely had any inspiration these last few months.
"It'll be better tomorrow." I heard Lucas say laying down next to me as I sighed and tried my hardest to fall asleep praying I wouldn't burst out into tears tonight.
