2, 450 miles. That's almost two and a half THOUSAND miles. That's how far I'm going. Sometimes I'm pondering if it'll be worth it. 3 different flights, all the way across the country. Whenever I think this, I quickly dismiss the thought, because I know it'll be worth it. Sophie, you're 16 years old, you'll be fine. I tell myself. I'm flying from my home in Rock Hill, North Carolina to Los Angeles, California to live with my brother and his 3 roommates. It's for your own good. Before I tell you why I'm making this treacherous journey, let me back-track and show you the back story.
Okay, my name is Sophia. I'm 16 years old. I'm in this world practically alone. But that's not what I want to discuss. I want to start from the very beginning...
I was born June 5, 1998. My full name is Sophia Clara Lawley, and I was born into a family just like any of us. My mom, Clara, my dad, James, my brothers, Kian, Cole, and Rio, and finally my sisters Tab and Izzy.
You might be thinking, 'But Sophie, how are you alone if you come from a family of 8?' Calm down, I'm getting to that.
So in order from oldest to youngest, it's Rio, Cole, Kian, Izzy, Tab, and then me. Kian and Izzy were twins. The gap between each of us is fairly small, but the gap between me and Rio is pretty big. I was born in Sioux City, Iowa, and when I was 2 we moved to Rock Hill, North Carolina (where I currently am).
The spring of 2004, when I was about to turn 7, a huge influenza virus breakout which unfortunately hit our family. Tab and Cole got it at the same time, and got it really bad too. Tab had it for about 2 weeks before it got to her and she passed away April 3 at the age of 8. Cole on the other hand, had it for 1 week and then went into a coma. He stayed in the coma for a month, and then his heart just stopped. He passed May 6 at the age of 14. When this happened, I was 6, Izzy was 9, Kian was 9, and Rio was 17.
It really hurt us as a family. We were traumatized. All of us, Mom and Dad included, would wake up in the middle of the night, scared out of our minds, sobbing, just wanting Tab and Cole to come home. It was horrific.
But the worst hadn't even come.
When I was 13, Kian started making YouTube videos. We were all supportive, saying that he needed to do what made him happy. Making videos was what made him happy, so we encouraged. As Kian got more popular, nothing changed. Until the summer of 2011, when Kian went to VidCon. It was 1 week without him, and I guess we managed. He came back, and things returned to normal. Well, for a little while.
A week after VidCon my mom, dad, Izzy, and Rio had to go to the doctor for they're yearly check-ups. Kian and I had gone the week before, so we didn't need to go again.

"Are you sure you don't want to come? You can sit in the waiting room." Mom said."Mom," Kian said, "we'll be fine. We've stayed alone before, we can do it again."
Mom sighed, "I know, it just makes me feel guilty when I have to leave you kids here alone."
"It's okay Mom, we'll be fine." I said.
"You're sure?" Mom said.
"Positive." Kian said with a smile.
"Okay," Dad agreed, "We better get going."
"Bye! Stay safe." Mom said.
"Bye!" Kian and I said. With that, they left the house.

We though everything was perfectly normal at the time. What we didn't know was that on the way home, on the freeway, our family's car was hit by a semi. The car flipped and everyone died on impact. That was when it changed. Kian and I were up until 3 that morning waiting for news. The hospital called and told us the news.
We just kind of grieved in our own ways. It was horrible. At the time is was December 27 of 2012. I was 14 and Kian was 17 when it happened.
