I stir and immediately close my eyes again. My head hurts a tad and the curtains are open, the horrible blinding light pours in. Ugh no.  The covers I try to pull over my head are hard to budge.. strange. It can’t be Glen, Mark and Rina are staying we’d be busted, then again I was pretty drunk last night?  He could have slept here to make sure I didn’t vomit or something?   There’s water on the night stand, I wouldn’t have been dexterous enough to pour it myself..   what’s making this so difficult?    With quite a degree of  effort I turn over and to my surprise two little faces peer up at me.

“Auntie Evie wake up! It’s Christmas!” Smiles burst onto their faces and I take the two small children into my arms, enveloping them into the covers.

“Merry Christmas you guys! How long have you been up?”  Squinting I look over at the clock, just as I thought... 7am.

“Mam and Daddy are asleep! So we came to see you!” They chirp giggling excitedly.

“Alright, I have a plan!  Come with me! Shh! We’ll jump on your Ma and Dad?”  They squeal and rush on out towards the spare room with me in tow.  They hold onto my hands and the door opens, as I thought Mark and Rina are sound asleep...3,2,1

“MERRY CHRISTMAS! WAKE UP!” the three of us shout in unison, jumping over the their confused and disorientated bodies.

“Whoaaaaaa! Ouch...Evie...look out! Guys..!” they grumble moodily but soon wake up and we all sit in a huddle in the bed.  I feel like I’m five again.

“ I suppose we’d better open some presents then huh?” mark chuckles running after the kids who’d escaped as soon as the present word was uttered.

“Go get Dan, Evie..Glen too!  We’ll all open some prezzies!”

I almost, in all the excitement forgot he was sleeping in the spare room.  Quietly I stalk around towards the room, holding in laughter.  He’s still spark out, lying on his front.

“Merry Christmas!” I shout landing somewhat worse for wear, with a thud on the empty side of the bed.   He makes a sound and turns back over onto his side pulling the covers over his head.

“Oi. Bah humbug! Wake...up!” I push myself into the covers and pull his shoulder, spinning him round to face me.

“I said, merry Christmas! Everyone’s downstairs waiting to open stuff..come on bubs..” I grin trying to melt away his mood.  He looks at me tiredly, it’s somewhere between admiration and annoyance...

“It’s too early..” he laughs rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand.

“It’s Christmas, there’s no such thing as early!” I snuggle into his chest comfortably and place a kiss to the top of his chest.   His arms wraps around me his fingers run up and down the top of my arm.

“Do you remember much from last night?  You were pretty out of it?”

I plod around my thoughts for a moment and the whole scenario seems more like a weird dream and I mustn’t have... did I?

“Kind of..” I smile, looking up at him and he’s looking down at me.  Ahh..

“I love you...I said it didn’t I?”  I giggle pressing up to his chest again letting his arm squish me tighter

“Thank god you remembered! You had me scared!  I love you too.  You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting and hoping for you to say that!”  he sighs happily kissing the top of my head.

“I’m so happy..” I squeak finally settling in with this kafuffle that’s called love.

His chest rumbles and he gets up, still moaning about it being too early.  Everyone should be a morning person on Christmas!
