Kai's pov

I had just moved into a monastic community with my parents and little sister.

"Cheer up deer it'll only be 2 years," my mom reassured me. As if making 2 years seem short helped. My little sister Mei seemed to already like it here as she skipped ahead humming. We were given a tour by some priest that took forever to stop talking and get a move on.

"Here we have the living quarters for everyone in the community." He said in a boring, monotone voice.

"Do we all have to share a living space," my dad asked.

"If you would like would like to. Otherwise we offer separate rooms for people who prefer to be alone." He said looking at me. I gave the 'who the fuck do you think you are looking at, a fucking unicorn' look.

"Shall we continue our tour," he said looking away and smiling.

"Of course," my parents said in unison. After probably a total of 3 hours the tour was over and we were standing in the living room of the family sized living quarter.

"Mom can I have a separate room?" I asked.
"Sure sweetheart, just go to the bishop and ask for a separate room. He'll show you to the place." My mom said sending me a fake smile.

"Okay. Last thing before I go. Why a Catholic monastery? We were perfectly fine in Japan around the people we knew." I responded exiting the room.

"The Catholic religion is way more faithful than Buddhism or Shinto." I walked straight forward. Turning around once as I heard a creak in the floor as if something was following.

This living quarters is like a maze with all of these different hallways and staircases. It seemed everywhere I turned there was more stairs more lengthy corridor until I came upon one specific hallway. This hallway was unpolished compared to it's seemingly new brothers. I slowly made my way down the hallway using the light of my phone to guide me through the darkness. I have this strange feeling someone is trailing behind me, ready to pounce. There were no windows and my phone light did nothing to help whatsoever. The floorboards kept on getting louder with every step I took until a second pair joined.

"Who's there?" I quivered in a bout of terror. I turned around expecting some horrifying creature only to be greeted to the sight of a black figure who seemed to be more dead than alive. The figure reached it's hand upward, removing it's hood. It seemed 'it' was a 'he'. He wasn't shorter than me but almost exactly my height. His facial expression was blank.

"If you are looking for His office." The male paused, coughing quite a bit. "It's back the way you came and up the right staircase. I can show you if you need help" His tone was weak as if he was sick.

"Thank you very much." I bowed in gratitude for this person appearing at the moment. Though I didn't trust this person completely I followed behind. It was quiet as my phone lit the way back. The male eventually stood still.

"Don't tell him I showed you here." The male said almost pleading. This is strange why wouldn't he want credit for helping another resident. "I won't. I forgot to ask but, what's your name."

"Aoi. My name is Aoi. The bishop's office is straight ahead. This is the part where I leave," He said before turning and going back the way I got lost on. I knocked on the tall door. A man, quite possibly the bishop, opened the door.

"I am going to guess that you are looking to get a separate room." The man said in a strong Osa-ken accent.

"Yeah. I got lost on the way here. But I eventually found my way here" I responded keeping that Aoi guy in mind.

"Alright then all I need is your families room number."

"418." I responded. He nodded and exited the room. *picture of the room in the beginning. I looked around in seemed nice. It had a gothic style theme to it although it did have some modern appliances such as a 69 inch plasma screen in the living room across from the bedroom and bathroom. In the bedroom there was a king sized also gothic styled bed with a canopy and a plasma screen in the centre of the room on a mahogany TV stand. I heard a knock on the door. I opened it and there was someone standing with my stuff.

"Are you Kai," he asked.

"Yeah,"I said gesturing him to come in he sat my stuff down and left. I lifted my bags to my room. I got in bath letting the water run over my body. My eyes were weighted down it seemed because I am exhausted. Before I fell asleep in the bath I got out and dried off. Before being lulled to sleep in the warmth of the bed.
