17-year-old Mary and her mother have just learnt that her father has been in a horse accident and that their family friend and fellow harness racing trainer Mr Raceway will be bringing their horse Ruby home. Mary is informed that Mr Raceway needs her assistance to unload Ruby from the float as he needs someone the mare knows and trusts to attend to her. Mary heads out the door into the cold winter morning hoping it wasn't a serious accident. That both Ruby and her father were ok.
most importantly Mary was thinking to herself... If only I didn't stay at home!!!
