Lunch was always the time I dreaded the most out of my day. The constant noise always left a stinging in my skull, the sickly, creamy smell of the room made me gag, but I was always there, sitting right across from Holly so she'd have someone to listen to her complain. In all reality, despite the awful setting I had to oblige to, I didn't blame her for wanting me there. We were friends after all, and well, complaining is everyone's favorite thing to do.

This particular Thursday however, she seemed more sour than usual. I looked up from my novel to see her carelessly dropping her lunch onto the table and going in to lay her head down, groaning, her fur frizzy.

"I just don't know how anyone does it, Luna."

My eyes returned back to my pages. Part of me was drained at the sight of someone in such a mess.

"How anyone does what in particular?"

"Deal with men!"

I just had to chuckle, childishly snickering into the pages of my book. Something about the contentment of being single made me feel so smug. Holly didn't seem to notice and continued to ramble.

"Ever since that thing I had with that nerd last month, I've been hitting on this absolute bull for weeks and he can't even get the hint and I swear to dog I'm going go Patches on this school!"

I shushed her in the midst of my giggles.

"Don't say that, you sound ridiculous!"

She sat up, looking at me with tired eyes, "Ugh, try me! This shit is-", she stumbles over her words at the change of my expression, "-ahem, this stuff  is going to be the end of me, Luna! I'm tired of seeing everyone else swapping spit and I'm just sitting alone collecting dust in the corner." She lazily picked up and ate a fry off her plate with her mouth. "I wish I swung both ways like you! Then maybe I'd have a chance of finding somebo-"

"Whoa whoa whoa wait, when did I ever clarify I did anything of the sort?"

Holly looked at me confused, still chewing. I was honestly very caught off guard by this remark. I've been in past relationships involving males, yes, but never a female. It wasn't that I had anything against lesbianism or people loving who they wanted, but the thought of women loving each other always made me squeamish and I never really understood the reason why. Holly eventually sat up and tilted her head.

"Don't you go off and look at that anime cat-girl shit you totally swear isn't porn like, all the time?"

I became flustered, agitated by the fact that she'd bring something like that up in such an openly public space.

"I-it's an adventure series! It...it isn't.........I-I have no idea what you're talking about-"

I cleared my throat as loud as I could and dived back into my chapter.

"Psh, everyone knows about your little cat kink, Luna!" Holly started to go into a giggle fit.

As soon as she said that, I could feel the stares starting to form onto me like a mold. The smirks and subtle pointing that surrounded me felt like a blanket of ice. My heart pounded as I tried to think of what I could do, anything to get out of this situation. I started to dryly laugh along with her, attempting to make as believable as I could. It hurt.

"Haha! Oh, Holly, stop it, you're awful!"

"Hmhm, I know~"

Soon Holly's laughter began to die down, and everyone's attention went back to their cliques. I subtly sighed in relief at the sound of the bell. I waved goodbye to Holly and immediately booked it for the library.  After that moment, I need some alone time. Maybe even an aspirin.
