3rd Lieutenant Alexander Copeland peered out from behind the first lieutenant of his ship; Lieutenant Mathams of the ship, Triumph. He gasped in surprise.
There was a brawny man running towards the house. But there was also a woman of about, 23 standing before the five British men that were there to impose her home.
She was a foot or two shorter than all the men standing around him, yet she had no fear in her brown eyes. Only mischief, compassion, hatred, amusement, and a twinkle. Admiration swelled in Alex's stomach, but he pushed it away.
She peered around Mathams, and her brown hair, with streaks of gold when the sun landed on it, swished around her face. He gaped openly at her courage.
She just basically dismissed Mathams.
he felt admiration riding up in my gut. And for once he didn't listen to it. These Americans were nothing but rebellious humans with no good characteristics that needed to be put in their place.
At least that's what he was taught. And it showed in the man that ran for the house. But not this amazingly beautiful woman.
His glance found her lips.
And he thought how nice they would be t- No. Not again. Not after what happened last time.
He shook his head to get rid of the thoughts that almost always haunted his mind and dreams and a piece of his dirty-blonde hair that had escaped his queue fell over his eyes.
At that moment the woman's gaze met his. Her eyes were beautiful. He stared at her for another ten seconds before she pulled her gaze away and looked back at Lieutenant Mathams.
And then his admiration rose for her as she held out her hand to be shook. Like a man. "Hello. My name is Kayla Bassett, and I must ask you... Fine. Gentlemen. To leave." She paused a lot during her sentence as if she didn't know exactly what to call is so that we didn't get mad.
And she was right to do it that way. Mathams ignored how her hand was outstretched for a shake. He took it and turned it slightly. He brought the hand to his lips and then held the hand for a few minutes afterwards.
Alex was about to step in to intervene when Miss Bassett pulled her hand away. But Mathams gripped her around the waist. He leaned his head down towards her and devoured her lips.
Jealousy worked its way down Alex's spine, surprising him, but he focused back on the situation at hand.
Miss Bassett reached up to slap his cheek but Mathams caught it midway. "Men! Go collect any weapons, supplies, food, or other pleasures."
He wiggled his brow and two of the men scrambled off in search of some women. The third lumbered after them, but for that Alex was grateful. He would stop anyone from getting harmed.
He was of about the same age as Alex and was wiry but strong, unlike Alex's broad shoulders and basically overall, brawny appearance. His name was Cody Johnston and he was Alex's best friend.
He had jet black hair and dark blue eyes that saw everything and condemned you for it when you were doing something wrong. And soon after the eyes condemnation, his strong arms would out you in your place. He wouldn't let any women in the house get ravished. Now Alex had to do the same with the woman in the barn.
There was finally fear as Miss Bassett's face blanched. Her nostrils started flaring and she looked ready to shoot sparks, or bullets, at anything that got in her way.
She struggled to pull away the hand that Mathams still had in his grip. Neither of them noticed Alex standing by the entrance to the barn.
As the foolish woman continued to stuggle, Mathams shoved her to the dirt and hay covered barn. He knelt on top of her even as she writhed in the ground, trying to get out from under the Luietenent's weight.
