It had only been three days in this hell hole I was supposed to be calling home(though I'll never call it that), and I had already been shot twice by arrows. The first time was when Isaac Suyianka,an annoying and an awful hunter at that, was trying to shoot a deer and his arrow had brushed right past my arm leaving a shallow cut. I almost died on my first day because of him! How reckless...

This time, however, was different from the first time. There was chaos all over the neighborhood as people were screaming and running for their lives. It was a cattle raid! Who in the world still raids at this era and age? This wasn't happening to me,I mean, these things only happened during my ancestor's time and it was freakin' 2020.

The chaos escalated and there was blood bath as cattle and people were murdered ruthlessly. My family, which had moved in two days ago,was shaken and hurdled together in a corner in the house no one daring to check what was happening outside. We all thought we were safe until we were proven wrong by a stray arrow that shattered the glass on the door. Holy shit, what was it with this place and arrows?

The house was no longer safe for us to hide and so we decided to run outside and hide in the bushes. As we were running across the compound towards the bush, another stray arrow found it's way directly to my thigh. It would've been wise for me to just cry silently but I couldn't help myself and I let out the loudest cry in the history of time as I dropped to the ground.

I lay there in pain as blood gushed out of my leg. Heaven knows I was waiting for my death and I had already repented four times before I lost conciousness.I could only hear my mum from the background asking if I was okay but I couldn't answer. The hospital was an hour away from home on rough road. I was surely going to die in this God forsaken place.

When I came to,after eighteen hours, I wished I had died from the arrow than from what I was seeing. I mean how could my parents take me to the local medicine man? They should have just let me die on the way to the hospital. Here I was,my leg strapped in bundles of leaves which were supposed to heal my wound. Leaves on my leg, yuck! I'm sure the disgust was written all over my face because I could see how Isaac was looking at me from across the room.

Isaac? What was he doing here? Was he the one who had shot my thigh, again? If it was him I swear I was going to murder him. Why does this handsome man want me dead?

Wait....did I just say handsome?Fuck no!Maybe it's just the herbal medicine that tasted like a mixture of sweat and sour milk that was kicking in.This guy doesn't want me anywhere near the neighborhood, not that I want to be here myself.

My dress had been lifted up to expose the part of the thigh where the arrow had already been removed from. That is when I realized that I was exposing too much and Isaac was just staring at my leg with a naughty smile on his lips.

"Someone care to hand me blanket please?" I asked angrily as I covered my exposed thigh. Doesn't anyone here know the meaning of privacy anymore? My hate for this place had just doubled.

I wanted to ask Isaac what he was doing there but I couldn't find my mouth,it felt heavy and I couldn't open it. I saw him hand the herbalist some leaves before he left the room.

I heard the herbalist say that the herbs would put me to sleep.

'More like kill me,' I thought

What have I been reduced to?Is this my life?A medical student like me receiving care from a herbalist as if I didn't believe in what I was studying to become all thanks to my parents.

Things were starting to get all weird, my parents were no longer thinking straight anymore. It had been only three days and I was already missing the parents they were when we lived in the city.
