A Fresh Start

Plot: After Dave dropped out of Thurston High School from the “Outed Scandal “ Dave has been slowly pulling his life together. He got a part time job at the Rec center just down the street from his apartment he used to share with Blaine. After that break up, Dave was surprisingly okay with it all. He recently got his GPA and was finally able to graduate high school (sort of) To celebrate he goes down to Scandals  with his friend Sarah from the Rec Center, and runs into Sebastian Smyth. They get to talking and become texting buddies. A week later he arrives at Aultman Community College after getting in a week earlier, and shockingly runs into Sebastian again, who was forced to go to Aultman as a punishment from the school board for taking performance enhancing drugs at Dalton. A friendship blooms, and soon, turns to romance.

Chapter 1: Friends

St. Peter Rec Center  (A location of my own making)

March, 2015 

“I got in.”

“What? Shit no way dude! Congratulations! Seriously!”

It was a brisk March afternoon. Dave had his usual 11-3 shift at the Rec Center. He had just told Sarah, his co worker and only friend, that he got into Aultman Community College. Sarah Delaney; Tall, with glasses and blonde hair. She too was also gay, and the only friend Dave currently had, as all his other “friends” deserted him for being who he was. When he started at the Rec Center, Sarah was the only person that treated him—well—like an actual person. She told him later that she saw him being Outed on Facebook and that she actually cried. She told him ‘No one deserves to be outed like that' Sarah was kind, warm, and funny. For the past few months, she had become very dear to Dave.

“Yeah, got it in the mail this morning. “

“Dave, that's great! We should totally go down to Scandals and celebrate!” Sarah said enthusiastically, as she pushed up her glasses.

“Ah come on Sarah, it's not THAT big of a deal. It's just a trade in auto-mechanics so I can get a real job to save up for real College. “ Dave replied, rolling his eyes as he was putting the basketballs away.

“Dude, it's a HUGE deal. You're one step closer to your dream!”

“I know right? Baby steps!”

Dave's ultimate dream goal was to become a Sports expert, top of the heap. He also wanted to be the first gay man to do so. He wanted to show the world that just because you're gay, doesn't automatically mean you can't be in the Athletic business. He wanted to send a message to all those closeted kids out there who were currently on sports teams like him. Most of all, he wanted to be a big wig in a big city, and get the hell out of Ohio. His Mother refused to speak to him, and the little contact he had with his dad was simply brunch on Sundays. Plus, his Sports blog he made on the internet was getting a lot of hate comments. However, nice comments outweighed the bad ones. Plus, he had a few romances and one night stands under his belt. He also took up boxing, and dropped a ton of weight. He was also in therapy and taking anxiety meds. His life wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. He knew now he was a sexy, single, young, gay man who was out and proud.

“So, we're going to Scandals then? “ Sarah asked with a grin.
Dave sighed and replied “Fine"
“Haha YES!!”

Scandals…. 8 PM

The bar was absolutely pumping tonight. It was Rainbow Friday, so everyone was wearing a Rainbow themed costume or attire. Dave only had a Rainbow shirt that simply said ‘Pride’ on the front, nothing fancy. He watched his friend Sarah drunkenly dance with some hot chick. Seeing as he was driving, he only had one beer. As teenage dream by Katy Perry came on, a familiar presence slid on to the stool next to him.

“I’ll have a Martini please, extra dry, no olive, they make me gag enough when I go to the supermarket. “

“Sebastian?” Dave mutters. This dude was his first crush, who turned him down flat, but still liked him all the same.

The familiar sassy voice turns, revealing that familiar face. Indeed it was Sebastian Smyth . Tall, dark, and handsome as usual. Though Sebastian himself was shocked at Dave's new appearance.

“Dave Kurofsky? Is that really you?”

“Yeah, 10 pounds lighter. Good to see you. “ Dave was being casual but on the inside, really nervous!

“No kidding… so how have you been?” Sebastian asks. He hadn't seen Dave since that night in Scandals before when he completely insulted him. Apart of Sebastian felt that Dave's attempted suicide was partly his fault too.

“I been okay, all things considered. I got a part time job, and got accepted into College. Well, Community College. It's just to get a trade so I can get into an actual real College. You know?” Dave rambled, as his nervousness was starting to show.

“Yeah totally. “ Sebastian agreed, sipping his drink after the bartender handed him his drink. “Soo, you with anyone tonight?” Sebastian asked.

“Yeah, I’m with a friend. “ Dave replied, pointing to Sarah. “The drunk lesbian over there making out with the goth chick. “ Dave chuckled.

“Ahaha, nice man. Glad you're making friends. “ Sebastian compliments, patting his back.

“Question; how come you're not in some fancy art school? “ Dave asked, sipping his beer. “I mean I don't mean to barge in on your business—” Dave started, but Sebastian put up his hand and spoke.

“No, you're right. I’m supposed to be in Julliard right now. However, after that incident taking performance enhancing drugs my scholarship was revoked. “

“Oh, sorry dude. “ Dave felt like he hit a nerve.

“No it's fine. In exchange for not going to Juvenile Prison, I agreed to go to Community College for a year until my suspension is over. A school with no performance Arts. So yeah, I’m in loser dom too. “ Sebastian replied somberly. “Oh, we should totally exchange numbers man. So we can like—you know-- complain to one another. “ Sebastian added.

“Haha, yeah, sounds fun. “ Dave laughed. Suddenly,  Firework came on. ‘What is this? Katy Perry night?’ Dave asked himself. Not that he was complaining,  he loved her.

“Ooo, I love this song!!!” Sebastian said excitedly. He downed his Martini and grabbed Dave's hand. “Come on, let's dance!”

“W—Okay!” Dave said with a smile.

He couldn't believe it. Here he was, on the dance floor, with the guy of his dreams, to Katy Perry. If you would have told him this when he was 16, he would have punched you in the face. It was true that Sebastian probably didn't see him that way, it was fine. Tonight, he wouldn't think about that. Tonight, he was Cinderella, and Sebastian was his Prince. Even though tomorrow would turn everything back into a pumpkin, at least he got another friend out of this. He was finally getting his life together. Soon, Sebastian would be apart of it.

Note: Hope this was okay! I been wanting to do a Dave Kurofsky fanfic for a long time. All locations are legit in Ohio, except the Rec Center which is of my own making. Sarah Delaney is  also my first Glee Original Character.
