Sitting on the rock, I was staring at the ocean waves, wondering how waves were coming for a moment to touch the shore only to leave it alone once again. My life is also like that people came and left when I requested so hard to make them stay.
I’m 17 years old. Today was the cremation ceremony of my parents. They were coming back from Delhi when their plane got crashed. I remembered crying in the hospital, begging them not to leave their little daughter alone.
“You are a young girl, Dhriti. Be strong, you have a life ahead of you dear. Study hard and make us proud. Ok, baby?” My mom's words echoed in my ears.
As the stars are shining in the sky, as the water is shining in the sea, in the same way, tears were shining in my eyes. I rubbed my tears away with the back of my hand. No, I’ll not cry, I won’t break my promise of not crying.
Suddenly something caught my eyes. At some distance, there was some movement. As I tried hard to look at it, I saw that in between two rocks a large fish was struggling. The waves were violent as it was a full moon that day and the rock was bit deep in the sea.
After contemplating I climbed down from the rock I was sitting and started moving toward the fish. As I approached the fish, I saw that her tail was somehow stuck between the rocks. She was actually a blue dolphin. I tried to move the rock but it was huge. I pushed it with more force but it still didn’t budge.
“Mom helps me,” I said looking at the sky. I placed my palm on the rock and with all the force I can gather I propelled it. Just as the rock moved, I looked at the high wave was coming toward us. I closed my eyes as I felt water coming toward us. It was strong enough to pull me in the sea.
When I gained consciousness, I was lying on something rubbery. I opened my eyes and I was on the back of the same dolphin I rescued. We were underwater but I was able to breathe normally. I pinched myself and it actually hurt. That was real, I was underwater and on the back of a beautiful dolphin.
We were approaching a big rock which was covered with different underwater plants. She stopped in front of the little space which was void of any plant. She bent toward the rock and I took that as a cue for me to shift on the rock.
“Ohh, you are awake.” She said making my eyes go wide.
“I know you must be thinking, how I’m talking like humans.” I nodded because I was not in the right state of mind.
“I’m talking in my language but you are able to understand me because you are pure.” She explained but my mind was still not able to understand anything.
I was sitting on the rock as the dolphin swam and placed her self on my lap. I caressed her rubbery skin on my lap.“You are a pure soul Dhriti. The reason you are here. Not everyone is able to experience, what you are experiencing.”
“So that means I'm rare?” I asked but that sounded really weird.
“Yes, you are courageous. Nobody came in just as you in deep water, on a full moon just to help a dolphin. You are rare, very rare.” She said.
“Then also my parents left me alone,” I told her in a sad voice.
“No one leaves, they live... in your heart. They are always with you. Your mom helped you when the rock didn’t move, just like every time she did.” I remember calling for mom when I was pushing he rocks on the shore.
“Thank you for saving me. I’ve something for you.” She said and before I could respond, she transposed from my lap and went behind the rock.
I took the time to see around. It was all blue with different colored full plants. Different types of fishes were moving around in groups. I raised my finger to touch one but she quickly shifted.
The dolphin came back from another side of the rock and around her blue hole, there was a silver chain with a blue pearl as a pendant. “This is for you to wear.” She told me. I picked up and examined it. I placed it on my neck and it fitted perfectly, neither too long nor too short.
“Blue pearl symbolizes courage and it’s a gift from us from your courageous act, Dhriti. It’ll provide you strength.” She said.
“Thank you. It’s really beautiful.” The pearl was shining when I held it.
“You won’t be alone as you’ll always have me as your friend. Once again thanks for saving my life. I’ll forever be indebted to you.” She said.
“Don't thank me. It was God’s will that I was there at the right time and place. I did what anybody would do.” I told her.
“You are so innocent. Come I’ll take you to the shore.” She told. I slowly climbed on her back.
She started moving in the direction from where we came. As the speed increased, I closed my eyes and attached my whole body with the dolphin's back. I was afraid that I might slip from her rubbery back at this speed.
When I opened my eyes we were already on the shore.
“Thank you,” I said before climbing down her back.
“Welcome. And remember you are never alone. Your parents are watching you and you also have me as your friend. Just remember me whenever you feel like talking to someone. ” She said to me before moving toward the water.
“Thank you for the blue pearl friend,” I yelled after her.
And this how I got a blue pearl and a blue friend.
