The Story of Joseph the Dreamer (Genesis 37-47)
A THREE-DAY DEVOTIONAL
DAY 1
One of the most powerful and beautifully written stories from the Bible is the story of Joseph. It is one that proves God's unique orchestration of one's life story. The beginning, the twists, the climax, and the ending, is only His knowledge. But knowing that God, the greatest author, had written it, we have the full confidence that it is the best and the perfect one.
Indeed, God moves in ways that are far from our mere understanding as humans. As it is written, His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Thus, this devotional will see through the story of Joseph the dreamer, and his adventures towards the fulfillment of God's plan in His life. God's acts are all filled with awe and wonder, let's explore them.
When God moves, He chooses you.
The Lord is always willing to work with you. He is not only interested working with your Pastor's, your church mates', nor your parents' lives. He wants to start working with you as well, right where you are, and who you are at this very moment.
Maybe you've done a lot of bad things from the past, you're sad, depressed, messed up, or in whatever situation you are right now, it's perfectly fine. God knew about that, and He is still interested with you, because He loves you. You are equally important and valued as others.
God does not choose the qualified but He qualifies the chosen. He doesn't look at mere appearances, financial status, talents, etc. and then decide. In fact, He chose to work with Joseph, the youngest and the most vulnerable, to fulfill one grand plan that would save His people.
Get in an agreement with God today, say yes to Him because He's always waiting for you.
When God moves, He brings the right people along the journey.
After giving your yes to God, perhaps you're wondering and asking God, how? or why? or with whom? Will you bring a friend, a loved one or will you go alone? These questions are answered already by God. As you go along, you need not to worry about a companion because God Himself is one. And He promised to be with you and never to leave nor forsake you.
In the story, Joseph met a lot of people. He pursue relationship with some of them, while others are needed to be left behind. These people were in his life not by accident, but they were placed rightly, and each appeared in Joseph's life according to God's perfect timing. They played a vital role, in one way or another, to complete the story and for God's plan to be manifested.
When God moves he certainly brings the right people for a certain reason, either they will teach you a lesson, or it's the other way around. Also, God will have to remove people along the way for you to carry on the plan and continue. Whatever happens, it's your job to trust Him and His will.
DAY 2
When God moves He equips you.
God will bring out the best in you, by giving the best to you.
Joseph got everything he needs— God. Yet, God still gifted him with abilities and right attitudes that he will be needing along his journey. He has the ability to interpret dreams which lead him to the Pharaoh. A forgiving heart, his obedience, and abundance in love led him to where he's supposed to be.
Just like Joseph, you too are already equipped. Have you realized it yet? Perhaps, you do not have the same exact skills or attitudes like that of Joseph, but you indeed possess something great in you. Something needed to be discovered, nourished, and multiplied.
Start asking God to open your eyes to see the seed of greatness he Had planted in your heart, and His purpose of giving it to you. Make sure to use it to bless others.
When God moves, He moves with a purpose.
"If God wants me to prosper, why do I need to suffer?"
All of Joseph's experiences and sufferings, the good and the bad, are part of the grand plan. There may be hardships, but God did not intend it for nothing. We call it the process towards the promise.
In the story, Joseph is meant to save God's people, to preserve the remnant on earth, to witness the famine and to deliver God's people without him knowing it. He is to create a name and a history that will last through generations. But none of it will happen if He refused God's will.
As you go along, you will be tried and tempted, but God is faithful, even when you are becoming faithless. He will cause all things to work together for your good. But both your obedience and faith must be intentional. Even when you can't see the bigger picture, and even when you don't see what's coming next. God is moving. He knows what He's doing.
DAY 3
When God moves, He does it with a promise and He is faithful to keep it.
"But when they told him everything Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the carts Joseph had sent to carry him back, the spirit of their father Jacob revived."
Genesis 45:27 NIV
How happy Jacob was when he knew that Joseph was still alive! He literally came back to life. Not only did God blessed Joseph, but so is his entire family and descendants. Out of God's faithfulness he made Joseph prosper and abound.
When God moves, He will do it so faithfully to you and to your descendants. His grace will last from generations to generations.
When God moves, He moves you as well.
When you get into an agreement with God, completely and boldly say "YES" to Him, and allow Him to be your Lord over all, your life will never be the same again. He will not live you where He picked you up.
When He moves, transformation begins.
When He moves, revival begins.
