"You played God with my life."

"So are we also going to talk about how you paid Netflix to continue on with the show for me too?" David casually asked Aubrey from the chair at the counter while Aubrey was making them both a cup of tea to warm up.

Hearing the bomb her ex just dropped on her almost made the poor girl spill the hot water everywhere. "Jesus, Dave, give me a warning the next time you say things like that."

The boy just chuckled, "Yeah, but then I wouldn't have gotten your little jump on camera."

Looking at his big grin Aubrey couldn't even pretend to be annoyed, "Good to know some things stay the same."

"I told you I'm still the same old Dave," He reminded her, "I was right though right? You were the one to bribe Netflix into continuing my show even though I was in the middle of a really big scandal?"

Scared of the conversation she was about to have, Aubrey laid the cups downs in front of him before taking a seat in the chair next to him.

"Yeah," She answered sheepishly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"I was worried," The girl shrugged, "And even though it wasn't healthy for me to be with you it still killed me that you were going through that because I knew the type of man that you are and I'd hate for you to lose the opportunity because of some scandal those assholes started. So...I did something that I've never really done before with my privilege."

"You played God with my life," David said for her, "You made sure the show happened."

"It was my way of taking care of you, Dave," She said softly, "Are you angry?"

"No, not at all," David shook his head, "I'm thankful, actually. The show's the best thing that's ever happened to me these past couple of years."

Aubrey let out a sigh of relief, all of the tension leaving her body, "How did you know?"

"Well..I thought about why they would let me have that show for the longest time, knowing how big that scandal was. They didn't know me that well then, so why would they believe in me that much? I just kind of connected all the dots by myself. So I guess I owe most of my success to you, huh?"

"Stop it," Aubrey looked at him pointedly, "Don't sell yourself short like that. That show was all you. Even with the internet on your back, you still managed to create an amazing show and made people fall back in love with you."

David stared at the person looking at him dead in the eye with just so much intensity. He was becoming nervous as he hasn't been anywhere near this force of a woman in two years. It's so crazy to him that even when she had left him when he needed her the most she still has more power over him than all the people in his life combined.

The boy broke their eye contact abruptly, clearing his throat and it was enough to break the tension between them.

"Wait," He paused, "But you hated how I was back then. That was our last argument! Why would you reward me with a show after that? For the longest time I thought you hated me because of that."

"Yeah, but you ended up addressing your accusations properly later on."

"That was months after you left Aubrey."

"Ok then maybe I'm just a sucker for you," she shrugged.

David let out a chuckle at that, "Really? Could've fooled me."
