\\ "Moving on is easy but what you leave behind is what makes it hard."//
* Cecilia's POV*As my eyes searched the empty road for any sign of life I let out and exhausted sigh. To no relief it was just us and our run down minivan. The movers had a delayed flight and wouldn't be able to get our furniture till nightfall consumed the dreary day.
I rip my attention from the road to the dark clouds looming above. I hope it rains but doesn't storm I think aloud as my mother nods in agreement.
My mom and I have been on the same highway to our 'new life' as she likes to call it for almost two hours. Switching the radio off I let the sound of rain lull me to sleep. One last thought ran through my head as I heard the faint pitter patter of the raindrops against the window next to me, we are a long way from home.Hearing a car door shut I jump in my seat and frantically look around me, our surroundings had changed drastically. I remember when I had started to doze off we were still stuck on the road now looking at my surroundings I now see that we were outside a beautiful house. Opening my door and stepping out I turn around to see my mother yelling on her phone. A light chuckle escapes my lips as I stretch my sore body. Being cramped in a minivan with all your necessities and your mom isn't what it's cracked up to be.
Once I'm sure my back is as cracked as it's going to get I once return my attention to our new two story house, my mom took me here to view the house for the final signing when the early summer break had started. Climbing the stairs it was just as we had seen it the day my fate was sealed. A open living concept on the first floor and once you reach the top of the stairs three bedrooms, two spare rooms, four bathrooms, a porch below, and a room that faced the front yard with a connected patio.
Turning the knob of the massive door I step into the living room with its windows expressing the storm that was still brewing above the town. A light shower must have started while I was putting away our water bottles in the fridge due to hearing my mom come through the kitchen and seeing her hair slightly damp.
"Well", she starts off with a heavy breath, "Looks like the moving company is going to be delayed due to this storm, so in the mean time sweety lets unpack the van a bit and run into town to see if they have any good Asian food, how does that sound?", she ends turning to me with a eyebrow raised in question.
"Sure lets do it, I'm hungry as well, after we move some stuff inside lets rush to the store. I don't think I can survive without food any longer.", I say with wide eyes and a growling stomach.
She nods in agreement and adds in that we weren't far away from the town anyway, explaining as we pull boxes from the back she adds in small facts about the town and that we were the only ones in the surrounding neighborhood. I guess we were hidden between some thick trees behind the other housing community's.
Happy that we didn't have to deal with other people I put my bathroom boxes full of towels and items on the counter sink. Leaning against the door frame I couldn't thank my mother enough. She had graciously let me pick the room that faced the front of the house with the connected top patio that was being held with concrete columns. My room was big and I knew I could fit everything I needed in here, due to it being one of the second biggest rooms in the household I had a connected bathroom and walk in closet.
Grinning to myself I had almost forgotten the piece of resistance, my mother already knew how hard this move was on us, especially me. So she allowed me to have one room or special item worked on in the house that I could call my little secret. She had allowed me to ask the construction team to install an actual book case into one of the spare rooms to the left of my bedroom, I could still fill the shelves with books but one certain book opened the door just like the movies. Revealing my own private art or study room.
Squealing like a freak on the inside I was sort of happy for a do over, a restart on our lives. Rushing down our massive stairs I almost bump into a pile of boxes held by my mother who shoots me an evil glare.
I let out a small chuckle and take two boxes off of her toppling tower she had rested in her arms. Noticing the box labeled kitchen I place them on the beautiful quartz island countertop with a loud thud. Wincing I expect my mother to scold me, instead she just chuckles at my internal cries for her not to unleash the her spit fire anger on her poor, exhausted daughter.
As we got ready I changed out of my clothes and into some light blue jeans, white black tank top, and a dark blue flannel with some converse to match. Tying my hair up into a messy bun that rests on the top of my head, golden strands fall loose to the sides.
Hearing the engine start I join my mom in the car as she gets out to check the locks one more time. Feeling satisfied she turned around and got back into the car. We had switched out the old minivan with the car that was in the garage since last week. We wanted to give the minivan one last memory before it broke down on us for good. Smiling to myself as we drove down the street I remembered all the joyous memories that were made in that car.
Sadness envelopes the small happy inside of me as we enter the town and my mind wanders elsewhere. The town surprises me in its modern tastes as I had presumed it to be an old town that stuck to its roots and hated everything new. I nod my head in approval to my surroundings. Fast food chains obviously still find their way around the town as we pass by irrelevant buildings including, Walmart, supermarket, home antics, mechanic shop and so forth. I see teenagers my age and family's as we pass by, no one knows who we are yet and I plan to keep it that way for at least a day longer.
Parking into a Panda Express I was going to ruin my mothers wallet, I mean its not like I could put a dent in her wallet even if I tried, after... after the accident she worked really hard and got promoted from her huge company. Rewarding her with a big bonus in her monthly and yearly checks and such we never had to scrounge for rent money. Except my mother and I never understood the living in luxury part to having money, I mean the most expensive thing we have ever bought would of had to been the new house in the move. I never cared for expensive brand clothes and loved to shop at thrift stores.
Getting our food I noticed the stares we received from not only the employees but the customers in the place too. Thinking to myself one last time before my mom noticed the moving truck pass by the window, I couldn't help but think we were a long way from home. A long way from the past too.
