Blue waves clash against the rocks. Sun shining down on her tail. Sunbathing was exactly what she needed. The cool air and the blue of the water all helped her to enjoy the freedom that she so dearly deserved. Being on the surface alone is a dangerous thing, but she really doesn't want to deal with her sisters, much less him. So being alone was her only choice.
She just hopes that she is far enough from the coast line, she really doesn't want to be bothered. If fate is kind to her through. She might even be able to see a ship. She wouldn't mind on being bothered then. Humans are always so interesting. With their big ships and fancy things on their heads. She always wondered why they wear those things. They didn't look practical at all, not with their big feathers and those colossal brims.
The strange things that humans do always interested her, and no matter what she did she could never get rid of that interest. It is always on the back of her mind, much to the displeasure of those around her. Being curious was a common trait to mermaids, and mermaids seem to always have their heads in the clouds. She was on another level through. Because when it came down to it, she could never take the life of a human. She just wants to learn so much about them that taking their life was unfair to her.
She was able to collect some things from the humans, but never enough to satisfy her eagerness to learn about them. One of her things was an angelic sword. It was too rusty and dull to cut anything, but it was still marvelous to look at and admire. One of her favorite things about humans is that they loved useless things. Like those fancy looking head pieces with the feathers, or those loud things that shoot big balls of iron. She would leap at the chance to see how the latter worked.
Sirens and mermaid never saw the use in creating art and things which they did not need. Why would they? It didn't help them hunt or lure men to their death. They didn't even see the use of names. She would give anything for a name. They only beauty that they saw use in is in the songs that they lure men with. It was the only art that she could find peace and joy in, and to the others that made her an outcast. She was still loved and cared about, but she could always feel the stares of her sisters.
As another wave clashed against the rocks she is laying on, she can't help but fall asleep to the lullaby that the sea is singing to her. Unknown to the sailors that are on their way to destroy what little peace she has.
