Technically, no one was going to do anything to Jacks in the palace dungeon, but Tella couldn't stand that he was in there. Stupid Scarlett. No, she shouldn't think that way. But Jacks was now the most important, just like Legend used to be. Used to. Tella wasn't sure what had changed, but frankly, she didn't care.
It was the middle of the night after Scarlett and Julian's wedding, and Tella was sure no one was going to come looking for her.
Tella found Jacks in one of the cells, trying - and failing - to give the bars a heart attack. Tella rushed over to him. "Jacks!" she shouted.
Jacks' ears perked up, and a smile spread across his face. Tella wanted to venture into his eyes and never come out.
"I didn't expect to see you here," Jacks said.
"Of course I came. Now I have to get you out."
No, no, no! He deserves to be there, thought Tella. What are you thinking, idiot? Who put those thoughts in your head?
Tella had brought the key with her and was about to unlock Jacks when she heard a stirring. She quickly ducked, and when she looked up, she saw Legend wandering around.
Legend. The very thought of him sent a chill down her spine. She could have gagged just at the sight of him, but she didn't, just to refrain from being seen.
Jacks was making weird signals to Tella. She leaned forward to see what he was motioning for her to do, and tripped and fell right on her face.
"Tella?" Legend looked genuinely confused to see her there.
"What are you doing down here?" Tella asked.
"I'm supposed to be down here checking on Jacks. What are you doing?"
"Um, I don't know. I must have just come here," Tella replied.
"She's here for me, you moron," Jacks cut in.
Legend opened his mouth, then closed it again, and walked away, his boots clomping against the floor.
"Legend, wait!" Tella yelled.
"Don't worry about him anymore," Jacks said. "Hurry up and get out of here before he tells someone."
Tella shook off any weird feelings she had about Legend and unlocked Jacks.
"You have to find a place to stay. Everyone's going to look in your usual spots," Tella said.
With that, Jacks ran away.
Meanwhile, back in the safety of the palace, Scarlett was pacing back and forth, waiting for news from Legend as to whether or not Tella was in the dungeon. If she wasn't Scarlett had no clue where she would be.
A few minutes of pacing later, she heard Legend come back in the palace. One look at his sullen face confirmed her suspicions.
"She was hiding from me," Legend said.
Scarlett nodded before going down there herself. She had no doubt Tella would be hiding from her, but she somehow didn't believe Legend. A quick search of the room told her that she wasn't there. No signs of life. Legend must not have been fully awake. Scarlett quickly walked out of the dungeon, not even noticing that Jacks had escaped.
