I learned somewhere that for working in a noble family, you need something called 'Recommendation letter'. Of course I helped him, but would he want at least to talk to me?

I gathered up the courage and decided to go to search for the duke of Lewiston.

Until nobody saw, I washed myself with water from a puddle and brushed my tattered clothes. I did my best.

«Hmm..., cute. Should I take it with me? » I put the red flowers in my pocket.

«Better with this than without anything. »

I headed to duke Lewiston at the sunrise.

"Did the Duke personally give this to you?", - asked a guard.

"Yes. He gave me this and told me to come here and find him.", - I answered.

The guard pushed me to the ground and looked at me as if I stole this business card.

Just then a carriage stopped in front of the gate. It was a luxurious, golden carriage and the boy who was inside come out.

"What's the problem?", - he asked.

This handsome boy was Jade, the son of Collen.

«This guy probably came here to see the duke», - I thought to myself.

"Who are you" – asked Jade and pushed with the finger my forehead.

"There is something important that I need to say to the duke. I would like to see him.", - I answered.

"... I will take you to him, come after me", - said Jade.

I followed after him and entered the duke's estate. All servants had a surprised expression when they saw me. I was familiar with that look. Since I looked dirty and poor, no-one wanted to approach me.

"Come here", - Jade brought me to the living room, the duke Collen was already there.

"you...?", - when he saw me, he immediately got up from his seat.

"Father, you know that girl? He had a business card that belongs to you. You wouldn't offer them randomly, maybe she stole it...", - Jade suggested.

"No. I know this girl. She came to the right place.", - Callen said.

"What? You know this child", - Jade surprised looked at me, as if he was looking at something disgusting.

"Yes. She helped me in one deal...", - Collen said.

"Yes, about this...", - I continued.

I was so scared. My whole body was shaking, but I had to say it right now.

"Have you chosen a maid yet?", - I asked frankly.

"What", - Collen frowned.

I was scared. He looked like a beast.

"Why are you asking?"

"In the newspaper! I saw in the newspaper that you want to hire a maid! Since I helped you wouldn't you wanna take me for this job?", - I blurred out excitedly.

"You? You are only bones and skin." – Collen said.

"I am!", - I exclaimed and then immediately added.

"I am strong! Even if I eat only one meal a day, I have a very healthy body! I have a lot of energy and I can do anything!"

"Anything?", - Collen asked.

"I can wash the floor, wash clothes and... since my body is small I can also clean the chimney.", - I answered.

The more I was speaking, the more silence become around me.

"Oh, is that so?", - a voice came from behind me.

I turned around and saw a beautiful girl. That was a woman with black, long hair.

"I am Marianne.", - she introduced herself.

"Ah...", - I was surprised by her beauty.

She was Collen's sister.

Suddenly, the information from the novel immediately came to my mind. Exactly the way she was described in the novel, she was an awesome beauty.

"Hey girl, where are your parents?", - asked Marianne.

"I don't have parents. Although I had a mother...", - I said.

Everyone turned to look at me.

"She died some years ago from a disease.", - I continued.

"... Where are you living?", - asked Jade.

"Nowhere, I don't have a house.", - I answered.

"Then where you are slipping, if you don't have a house?", - Jade asked again.

"In the street... ", - I answered.

«Oh no! I made a mistake! I shouldn't make a bad impression of myself! », - suddenly I realized.

"During the nights I'm covering myself with thrown blankets. The alley in which I sleep is so clean that I don't take infectious diseases!", - I tried somehow to smooth out the image of myself.

The room become quiet again. It was so awkward, that I wanted to die. Then Marianne bent over me and said:

"You look pretty cute."

"Thank you", - I blushed.

"Yes, child. My brother gave his business card to you, that mean we can do something for you. Hmmm... why you want to become a maid?", - Marianne asked.

I swallowed.

"I want to change..."

"Become different?", - Marianne asked again.

"Yes. I don't want to be a beggar. I want to change my life and become a better person."

"... .." No-one answered.

I became even more nervous.
