Trinity's PoV
I looked around the bedroom and smiled. Our new house was finally beginning to seem like a home. The cream and black walls had been decorated with pictures and paintings, and matching furniture had been installed. When I had asked what colour Louis wanted to paint the walls, he had said black, 'like his soul'. So, there we were. In our own house.
Louis had picked up a few gigs in local venues, singing a couple of nights a week, and he was rapidly gaining support. I always joked about how I was going to be the girlfriend of a huge star, but in the back of my head it wasn't much of a joke - it was very possible. He had amassed thousands of followers on twitter and had even been contacted by a record label. Louis had brushed it off, but I was going to get it into his head that he should take the opportunity and run with it. It was his dream and I wasn't going to let his modesty stop him in his tracks.
Me? Well, I was in my second year of studying psychology in Oxford. Louis joked about the reasoning behind my choice of course being so I could finally understand him, but I always retaliated that not even a Psychology degree could help me read into him.
Money was tight, so we had been living in a small apartment for the last year and a half. Louis' parents had offered to buy us anything we'd need, but he claimed he didn't want to be living off them. However, when my dad offered to split the cost of a new house with Louis' parents, with a little contribution from us, how could we say no?
My dad had remained close to us, often popping over for dinner or heading to the pub with Louis for a few drinks. I had finally met Louis' parents, after much mystery, and soon found out that I had nothing to be worried about. They were lovely and couldn't seem to stop thanking me for 'what I had done to Louis', even though I insisted he had done it all himself. He had made the conscious decision to change for the better, and I couldn't take credit for that.
I hadn't spoken to my mother since the whole 'I'll-frame-your-boyfriend-for-kidnapping' thing, but I had heard from my father that she had somehow found a man willing to put up with her antics. Apparently, she wasn't quite as psychotic as she used to be, though I was skeptical.
Chloe still lived back in Doncaster, though we kept in contact. She had met the 'guy of her dreams' shortly after we had left, and they'd been together ever since. We'd go back and see her about once a month, determined to stay in contact. She was even coming up to see the new house once we had finished decorating it.
Looking back at the last few years of my life, it was hard to believe I was the same person. Everything had changed so much. Life wasn't perfect. My relationship with my mother was non-existent. When it came to money, we sometimes struggled to make ends meet, and Louis and I fought from time to time. However, the imperfections were masked by the good things. I had reconciled with my father, and we were making up for lost time by hanging out frequently and doing all the father-daughter things we never got to do when I was growing up. He even offered to take me fishing.
Needless to say, I declined.
Things were unrecognisable when compared to how they had been three years ago. But I didn't mind. Paraphrasing what Louis once said, there's no reason for people to dislike change. We need change. Life was constantly changing, and I had learned to be okay with that. Louis and I hadn't got a particular plan, but I was okay with that, too. We were simply enjoying be with each other. We had talked about the possibility of marriage and children someday, but that was way down the road. We were young, and we were in love.
And that was enough for us.
