Chapter 18- How Zombies Came To Be

"Ok, that's it! They're definitely late! Way past late!" Jillian stomped her foot on the floor. "It's already midnight, they've been out there for six hours and they never contacted us!"

"They might be taking refuge somewhere," Peyton said.

"We're going out to look for them."

"Jill, have you gone crazy?! Out there? Where zombies are still roaming," Zoie pointed to the door.

"Yes and we're going if you like it or not." Jillian stomped her way to the door.

"Y-you guys aren't actually going, right?" Peyton asked.

"You don't have to come with us, but we could still use the help," said Joe following Jillian to the door.

"Gina and Jack are our friends. If it weren't for them we wouldn't be here. We are not leaving without them." Nicole ran after Jillian and Joe.

Zoie and Peyton looked at each other. They felt a bit guilty, so Zoie went and grabbed a metal pipe and Peyton grabbed a wooden baseball bat, chasing after them.

"Ok, we'll help," Zoie said.

They walked up the rode into the town full of zombies. As they search in town, Gina and Jack are still back in Dr. Adam's lab. Gina stumbled off the chair as she rubbed her neck. She notice the number 29 on the white plastic bracelet she's wearing. Gina scanned around the room with curious eyes. Her eyes landed on the three boys.

"Tyler? Matt? John? You guys are still alive?!"

"I know right!" Jack jumped in. "What else is that they have really cool weapons."

Gina's eyes wander to their weapons seeing daggers, shotguns and auto rifles. Gina even notice Jack's mechanic arm.

"Your arm." Gina stroke Jack's automail arm.

"I know. Pretty cool right? Still need to get use to it though."

"I'm happy for you."

"Ok. Now that you had your reunion. Please come with me," Dr. Adam said.

"Who are you?" Gina glared at him.

"I am Dr. Adam. The one who brought you back from the dead."

Gina was staring daggers at him. For some odd reason she doesn't trust him.

"Gina?" Jack was worried.

"What happened to your arm and leg?" Gina noticed that Jack wasn't the only one with mechanic body parts.

"Keen eyes you got there." Dr. Adam pulled up his sleeves exposing his automail arm and leg.

"Dr. Adam-" Matt was interrupted by him.

"It's fine. I'm willing to tell them. But first, why don't we have a cup of tea while we talk." Dr. Adam walked out of the lab with everyone following.

They sat in a chair while holding their teacup that's filled with hot red tea. Dr.Adam took a deep breath and drank his tea.

"Have you ever wondered where the zombies came from?" Dr. Adam asked Gina and Jack.

Gina had wonder. She always ask herself 'where did they come from? How are they here? Zombies aren't suppose to be real?' But she never really put much thought into it, she's always busy running and defending herself and her friends from the zombies. Gina and Jack both nod their heads.

"Well... I was the one that brought them into our world..., our lives."

Gina jumped out of her chair and the tea cup dropped to the floor shattering. Gina's eyes widen with surprise, horror and anger.

"You!? It was you!? You're the one that fricking brought them to life!" Gina snapped. She was about to leap at him when Tyler hold her back.

"Let him finish," Johnny growled.

Gina sat back down trying to calm her nerves and listened to what Dr. Adam had to say.

"I was a scientist that studied life. I worked on my research, I was proud of what I did. I worked in this laboratory my whole life, everyone looked up to me. But, when my wife died I was in great pain. She was in a car accident. My heart shattered, I thought I could never find love again. I was grieving on my wife's death for a couple of weeks. I never really accepted my wife's death, I just couldn't believe it, she was so young, so innocent."

Gina noticed that Dr. Adam was on the edge of crying. Dr. Adam took another deep breath before speaking again.

"I cried for her every night and every morning. Everytime I would scream, my nightmares of losing her would always haunt me." Dr. Adam's expression became dark. "Until one day, I snapped, something had just snapped inside of me. I was mad, at how my wife left me, I was mad at how I couldn't save her. I was mad at the world. So I used my studies of life to bring her back."

"You can't bring back the dead," Gina said.

"I know. But I was desperate in bringing her back, the one I love, the one I care most about. It took about a mouth to finish. But when I finally did finish, I tested it on a dead plant and it worked. The plant came back to life, so then I quickly went and dig up my wife's grave."

"That's insane," Jack said.

"When I opened her coffin, it reeked of rotten flesh. The body was already decaying, but little bit of flesh was still intact. I injected the syringe into her. And I felt so happy to be able to see her alive again, but I was wrong. What I saw wasn't my beautiful wife..." Dr. Adam took a deep breath. "It wasn't even human."

Gina eyes turned to a cold glare knowing what's gonna happen next.

"What I saw..." Dr. Adam shook his head. "No. What I created... was a monster. A zombie. It felt like I was struck by lightning. The monster I created. I didn't know what to do. She wasn't human anymore. I tried to talk to her but she bit me. On my arm and my leg. I didn't want to die and I couldn't kill her, so I ran. All the way to the lab. I replaced my bitten arm and leg with automail. I cried on the failure I created. It was my fault that the world was drench in chaos. Because of my selfish reasons, I had destroyed humanity." A tear fell from his eyes.

Gina and Jack felt awful. Hearing that story, they pitied him. The room was filled with feelings of sorrow.

"Now you know. What are you going to do?" Johnny asked.

"Even if I know what happened, I still won't forgive him for bringing zombies to the world of the living, but I will pay my regards to him for bringing me back from the dead and giving Jack a new arm. So I thank you." Gina reached a hand to Dr.Adam.

Dr. Adam stared into Gina's eyes and let out soft smile as he reached for her hands.

"I'm willing to help. On bringing the world back to the way it once was." Gina smiled.

"I'll help too. I have to repay you for bringing my girlfriend back to life." Jack smiled.

"Girlfriend?" Matt raised a brow.

Gina's cheek was cover with the color of rosy red. Jack was the same.

"Since when did you two became 'Lovers'" Johnny asked with a smirk.

"Shut up, John," Gina snapped, still red as a rose.

Everyone chuckled from the lovebirds reaction.

"Ok, since everyone has calmed down now, I would like to do some testing if you wouldn't mind." Dr. Adam looked at Gina.
