*Daniel’s POV*
“This is going to be the best year” Tyler shouted, giving me a playful punch in my shoulder. “Yes! The best of all!” I said whilst having Will next to me, holding his hand up for a friendly high five. “Wooooooooo!”
“Calm down, newbies. You still have to pass one more test.” Mason Park, the team captain passed the ball from one hand to another whilst he looked at us smirking.
His words shut up my friends suddenly, who were still and quiet next to me.
“I thought the coach was the one who put the tasks” I heard myself say, I could hear Tyler and Will’s breath stopped abruptly.
Mason looked at me and leaned over so close his face was centimeters away from mine. I could smell his cheap cologne trying to cover the smell of his sweat. Gross! But the girls liked it. I could tell a few highlighted veins, some on his hands and one on his neck. This dude really needs anger management.
“It’d be better if you don’t cause me trouble in the future, Harris” He came close and grabbed me by the shirt. “I’ve been wanting to kick your ass since fifth grade.” He said grabbing me tightly.
Unfortunately in the town I live in is very small and almost everybody knows each other, rumors spread fast and you can’t have secrets. And that’s how stupid I was for going out with the biggest bully’s sister. Brook was pretty, I admit it, but she was all… fine, fine, she was just not what I was hoping.
*FLASHBACK*
I left the flower store with a bouquet of red and white roses, for Brook. I took a cab, I didn’t want the flowers to wilt from lack of water, When I got to her door I rang the bell several times without receiving an answer. I grabbed my phone and searched for her number, when I hear a loud sound, like if something fell. Without thinking for a second I opened the door, that fortunately or not it wasn’t locked, I ran up the stairs with the flowers still in my hand.
“Brook?” I shouted, but I didn’t get and answer.
I heard whispers in her room, so I went to look in there. I knocked a couple of times but again, nobody answered. I came to think for a moment that I imagined it, but then I heard something.
“Do you think he left?” It was the voice of a guy.
“Shut up! He’s gonna hear you!” And yeah, that was Brook.
I opened the door to find a naked messy-haired Brooklyn covering herself with the sheets of her pink bed and with a boy equally naked under her same sheets.
“It’s not what you think, Danny, baby” I heard her, but I ignored.
I let the flowers fall on the floor and I left running, so fast that even if she wanted to run after me, which she didn’t, she couldn’t catch up with me.
I forgave her that time, when I started getting sick of her little game I started dating other girls, and yes, just like you think, I ended up being the bad guy of the story, the womanizer and I have the #1 spot in Mason’s ass kicking list.
*END OF FLASHBACK*
So yeah, when I heard there was available spots in the football team I didn’t doubt going to try out, not even a little. It had been my biggest dream since I can even remember, but there was only one problem, Mason Evans was the captain and I was sure he wasn’t gonna let me even have the janitor spot in the team. However, I had underestimated him; Mason’s revenge looked like it was going beyond that. He accepted me in the team and gave me an important spot in the team; all the same, there was still something I had to survive to, “The Newbie Haze”.
I knew that although Mason let me be in the team, it was just to make my life impossible other thousand of ways.
As they all say, “keep your friends close, but your sister’s ex-boyfriends even closer “.
