There is something about the story of Queen Dangyeong and King Jungjong that struck me hard the moment I've seen the drama. I have read and heard far more tragic stories than theirs, but I had never felt the need to rewrite the stars for those in the past.
Perhaps it was the feeling of injustice that tugged at my heart for these two people who just wanted to love each other. Or maybe it was the fact that despite the love that was rooted deep in their hearts for one another, it was not enough to overcome the harshness of the world they were born in.
They never wanted to rule Joseon. They never lusted after fame or power. All they wanted was to live happily together. They were both victims of the circumstances that forced them apart, circumstances that neither of them had a choice in the matter. That itself is a tragedy I wish to rectify even for just a brief moment.
I cannot change what had happened in the past, but perhaps I can write a better future. Maybe in their next life, fate will be kinder to both of them. And maybe, just maybe, these two kindred souls may finally find their way back home.
