It all began in a time that seemed like any other, but soon we realized that our sense of normalcy was shifting into something entirely new—something that would become our reality for the years to come. As resources began to dwindle, we adopted a motto reminiscent of the past: "Use it up, wear it out, make do or do without." But before I delve into the heart of the story, let's travel back to where it all started.
On a seemingly ordinary day, I found myself engrossed in my work as a maid. The spacious, modern library was my domain, and I often indulged my love for reading by discreetly borrowing books, always returning them before anyone noticed. These were the neglected volumes, the ones nobody paid attention to. Stepping away from the shelves, I was met with a sudden frenzy—papers swirled through the air like confetti, people urgently spoke into their discreet earpieces, and chaos gripped the surroundings. Amidst the turmoil, important documents fluttered to the ground, trampled under the hurried footsteps.
Amidst the chaos, I recognized Taavin, who appeared just as bewildered as the rest. "Taavin, what's happening?" I asked, my voice drowned out by the tumult. He explained, his brow furrowed, how the interconnected financial systems had faltered. The bank's attempts to capitalize on fluctuating markets had resulted in a disastrous plummet, leaving everyone in a state of shock. Amid the panic, Taavin suggested we find a quieter place to talk. We made our way to a local café, the din of the city fading behind us.
Seated in a corner, we ordered our drinks. It was clear that Taavin carried an immense weight on his shoulders, a contrast to his usual carefree demeanor. Curiosity eventually got the best of me, and I couldn't help but press him to share his thoughts. "Taavin, you're never this serious. What's going on?" I inquired, my concern evident. He hesitated before admitting that he needed to confide in me, his expression a mix of anxiety and vulnerability.
He took my hand and implored me to maintain the utmost confidentiality about what he was about to reveal. As he began speaking, I focused on his words, absorbing the gravity of his revelations. The intricacies of modern financial systems, intertwined with his family's predicament, painted a complex picture that left me momentarily speechless. Taavin's earnestness was palpable as he pleaded for my understanding, stressing the urgency of his situation.
After he finished speaking, I struggled to find the right words. The complexities of his revelation swirled in my mind. Recognizing the importance of my support, I finished my drink and assured him that while the chaos outside made it difficult to process everything, I trusted him and would need some time to reflect.
Before leaving, I made sure he understood that my hesitation wasn't a lack of faith in him, but rather a need to grapple with this new reality amidst the chaos that had enveloped us. With a final reassuring squeeze of his hand and a smile, I left the café, leaving behind the whirlwind of the outside world.
